You Need To Detox From Your… Toothpaste?
Written by: Brandon Epstein
Looking to rid your body of toxins?
Ditching the fluoride is a great place to start!
You may be thinking to yourself, “wait a minute, fluoride… isn’t that in my water and toothpaste?”
How do you detox yourself from that and why would you want to?
Let’s start with the why first. Why would you want to rid your body of fluoride?
Reason #1 – too much fluoride can result in discolored teeth, low energy, rashes around your mouth and an upset stomach. Over long periods of time, it’s been shown to potentially lead to brittle and weak bones.
Reason #2 – we are over consuming fluoride (especially in America), because it’s in our water, so we consume way more than we need to for the healthy functioning of the human body.
Ready to move onto the how?
The first step in detoxing from fluoride is making sure your body has low acid levels. If your body is highly acidic (let’s say a pH balance of 5.5), you will only be able to get rid of about 5% of the fluoride in your body.
If you are able to move into a higher pH balance (let’s say 7.6), you can remove up to 65% of the fluoride from your body.
Now that you know how important it is to have an alkalized pH balance, that should be your main focus when starting on your detox journey.
How do you get a more alkalized pH balance?
It starts with your food. Eating foods that are less acidic and more alkaline is hugely beneficial.
Here is a list of some of my favorite alkalizing foods as well as some tips:
There are dozens more foods and things to try, but those should get you started.
The next step to alkalizing is focusing big time on your water, particularly the quantity.
Try to consume half your bodyweight in ounces of water per day. For example – I weigh 200 lbs, so I should be drinking 100 ounces of water a day.
Next, focus on the quality of your water. Try getting your hands on some alkaline water. A guaranteed way to get fluoride out of your water almost all together is by using something like an ion trapping filtration system.
The final step to this alkalizing process is testing your pH levels. The best way to do this from home is picking up some pH strips and peeing on them. To get accurate numbers, try peeing on them upon waking and then 30 minutes later (still before any food or drink) and then finally another hour later (yep, before food or drink). This will give you a good idea of what your number actually is.
The goal is to make it as easy as possible for your body to alkalize, so it can easily detox itself from the fluoride. The more of the action steps you take above, the easier it will become.
