Wintertime Fruit Salad You Can’t Resist

Remember those hot summer days when you were relaxing in the sun with a big bucket of cherries or half of a watermelon?
They seem like distant memories, don’t they?
With December and the cooler temperatures here, your fruit consumption has likely declined. Even if you live in the warmer states, you probably think more about Christmas cookies than fruits.
But the apple pie had apples in it… but that doesn’t count for much.
Your body needs fresh fruits to gather essential vitamins, minerals and antioxidants to help keep you healthy this winter.
Fruit salads are a beautiful way to get your fresh fruits in while also enjoying a vast variety of the delicious fruits out there. They are so easy to make, too!
Here are some key fruits to include in your salad and the benefits you can get when eating them all together:
- Blackberries are abundant in vitamins C and bioflavonoids. They reduce intestinal inflammation, keep your brain alert and relax your muscles.
- Strawberries are high in vitamin C and fiber. They reduce inflammation, promote bone health, protect your heart and boost your memory.
- Blueberries are incredibly rich in antioxidants. They protect against cancer, slow down your aging process, lower your blood pressure, protect against heart disease and are good for your brain health.
- Mandarins are rich in vitamin C and other antioxidants. They protect your immune system, aid in weight loss, are good for your skin and lower your chance of cancer.
- Bananas are high in potassium and antioxidants. They aid your digestion, help you overcome depression, lower blood pressure, control blood sugar and protect your heart.
- Apples are a great source of flavonoids and antioxidants. They improve your neurological health, reduce your risk of stroke, reduce your risk of diabetes and lower your cholesterol.

- 6 oz of blackberries
- 6 oz of strawberries
- 6 oz of blueberries
- 2 mandarins, peeled and sectioned
- 1 ripe banana, sliced thinly
- 1 apple, diced
- Slice and dice all ingredients, then mix them in a bowl.
Variations: You can add any other fruits you’d like to, such as kiwis, pineapples, pears or oranges. Top with coconut flakes, hemp seeds, goji berries or any other superfoods to add an extra boost. Drizzle with honey for its powerful benefits. Sprinkle with cinnamon for its anti-inflammatory effects. The options are endless.
- Add an apple or a pear to your green juice.
- Add some fruits to your green smoothies. Bananas, mangos and berries are good options.
- Add berries, diced apples and mandarin wedges to your granola, oatmeal or yogurt in the morning.
- Snack on whole fruits.
- Make banana ice cream by blending up some frozen bananas.
