Why You Need To Have Peppermint Essential Oil Handy
Peppermint essential oil is one of my favorite oils to use. It has been so helpful with dealing with allergies, sinus issues and even some muscle aches. The cool and refreshing smell also gives me a quick mood boost!
That’s not all that peppermint essential oil is good for. In fact, there are even more benefits for both your body and mind!
This is one of the major reasons I like to use peppermint essential oil. Peppermint has the ability to open up your airways and act as a natural decongestant. It is great to use when you have a cold that is making you feel stuffy or if you are experiencing symptoms of asthma or bronchitis.
Peppermint essential oil can be used as a chest rub or inhaled through a vaporizer or diffuser. Peppermint oil also contains rosmarinic acid that works as a natural anti-inflammatory that can work against the symptoms of asthma.
Relieves Allergy Symptoms
Peppermint essential oil helps relax muscles in your nasal passages and can also help clear out the gunk that might be hiding in those passages during allergy season.
Simply diffuse some in your essential oil diffuser or place a couple of drops in the palm of your hands, rub together and inhale deeply with your hands cupped around your nose.
Muscle Pain Relief
Peppermint essential oil is a natural muscle relaxant and painkiller. It can help relieve the aches of sore muscles, sooth an aching back and even help relieve a tension headache.
To use peppermint essential oil for sore muscles, simply dilute the oil (usually with a carrier oil), then massage the muscles or add a few drops to your bath water and soak.
If you are suffering from a headache, dab a few drops of oil onto your wrist or massage onto your temples. You can also try dabbing a bit of oil on your forehead and on the back of your neck.
Peppermint oil contains the same chemical, chlorhexidine, that store-bought mouthwash contains. This chemical helps in preventing the development of biofilm that can create cavities in your teeth. Peppermint essential oil can also help freshen your breath.
Simply add a drop into the toothpaste on your toothbrush. To use as a mouthwash, add a drop or two to a glass of water and rinse your mouth with the mixture. Make sure to not swallow it.
Increases Concentration And Alertness
Sometimes in the middle of the day you need a quick pick-me-up to get finished with your work. Peppermint may help to improve concentration, focus and alertness.
You can diffuse the oil in an oil diffuser or rub a drop under your nose to get your energy going.
Improve Your Hair
Peppermint essential oil has antimicrobial and antiseptic properties. Adding a few drops to your shampoo before you wash your hair can not only cool your scalp, but also help eliminate dandruff.
Using peppermint essential oil is also beneficial for school aged kids or anyone working with kids to avoid getting and eliminating lice. Peppermint essential oil in your shampoo can also keep your hair frizz-free.
With any essential oil, it is important that you dilute the oil before applying it to your skin to avoid any irritations that it may cause. A carrier oil or even coconut oil can be great for this (don’t do it with water, as water can actually increase the potency of the essential oil, thus producing the opposite effect).
