But did you know you can actually get more out of your lemons by freezing them?

You don’t usually eat the peel of lemon unless you’re grating it into dessert recipes, but researchers have found that the peel of the lemon contains powerful antioxidants called limonoids. Limonoids are phytochemicals – compounds found in plants that have overwhelming benefits on the body, for instance:

  • They decrease the levels of bad cholesterol in the blood, which helps reduce your risk for heart disease.
  • Limonoids help to remove toxins and pollutants from the blood that can eventually lead to circulatory issues, according to a study published in the journal Food and Science Technology.
  • Microorganisms and parasitic worms in the gastrointestinal tract are eliminated by limonoids, allowing your digestive system to work at its optimal potential.
  • A study published in the Journal of Agricultural Food Chemistry found that limonoids strike malignant cells that can cause cancer of colon, prostate, breast and other areas. Chemotherapies attack both healthy and malignant cells in the body, but limonoids only attack the cells that cause cancer.

Lemons as a whole also have a wide variety of well-known benefits as well.

  • Packed with vitamin C, lemons can help with wound healing and keeping strong bones and teeth.
  • Lemons help slow down the aging process, also because of its high vitamin C content. Vitamin C is essential for healthy and glowing skin as it helps the making of collagen.
  • The citric acid in lemons helps digestion and improves the absorption of nutrients in food. Citric acid has also been known to help dissolve kidney stones.
  • Loaded with antioxidants, lemons can help disengage the free radicals in the body before they injure healthy cells.
  • Lemons have the least amount of calories of all the citrus fruits, making them an excellent choice for individuals trying to whittle their waist or take control of their blood sugar levels.

To top it all off, lemons are also loaded with thiamine, pyridoxine, potassium, calcium, iron, copper, magnesium and vitamins A and E. However, every time you throw the peel into the trash can, you’re missing out on a lot of the vitamin C, limonoids and other nutrients! You’re basically tossing out handful after handful of benefits that could have been yours to reap.

This is why freezing your lemons is a must. Not only will it help keep them from spoiling, but you’ll be able to get the benefits you deserve from the loads of limonoids in the peel.

Follow these simple directions and start to experience the benefits today:

1. Wash your lemons well. Use a produce brush if you have one.
2. Cut the unpeeled lemon into chunks.
3. Store the pieces in a plastic, resealable bag and store them in the freezer.
4. Grate the frozen chunks into soups, salads, smoothies, juices, yogurts and more!organifi-web2

During my FitLife transformation, I lost 70 pounds! That's why I signed up for the protocol, but the most exciting result is that I found ME in the process. I had been hiding under a pile of pounds, self-doubt, and grief! FitLife changed my life and I knew I had to share it with others.

-Lynne, Longwood FL

I started with Fitlife back in 2011-2012…I wrote into Fitlife asking for an extreme amount of help. I was 300 pounds, with high cholesterol, and Drew helped me transform my life. I lost over 130 pounds and I no longer have high cholesterol. Not only did I lose weight, so did my husband, who lost over 70 pounds!
