You got used to the idea of drinking green juices and green smoothies…

What do you think about drinking something that’s BLACK and not coffee?

There is actually something called activated charcoal that is super healthy and healing for you – and it can be made into a delicious lemonade!

Why Should YOU Use Activated Charcoal?

The charcoal used in this Charcoal Lemonade recipe is activated and typically made from wood, bamboo or coconut shells. Besides making a detox drink out of it yourself, you can also find activated charcoal in several detox supplements on the market.

Activated charcoal is incredibly easy for your body to absorb and is also completely safe (for most people) to consume. It captures everything harmful in your digestive tract, including all the toxins that are causing you issues now and toxins that may potentially lead to disease down the road. Activated charcoal is a great addition to your detoxification programs – it can even help with extreme toxin exposure or drug overdose.

You can use activated charcoal specifically to cleanse your intestines and your colon. It can help you recover from food poisoning or to clean out your system from traveler’s diarrhea. This powerful substance can even help you fight hangovers (celebrations and holidays ain’t got nothin’ on you!).

Drinking activated charcoal can also give you tons of energy – there won’t be any toxins left to slow you down. No more mid-week hump; once toxin-free, you will be unstoppable! As an extra benefit, it can help boost your confidence on a physical level because – as result of all the ‘cleaning’ – it can help give you a flat tummy too.

Many Studies Have Proven That Activated Charcoal Works

In the 1980s, many studies were completed on the effects of activated charcoal. The results were fascinating. According to the research studies, activated charcoal significantly reduces the symptoms of intestinal gas, bloating and cramps. That is certainly good news, since in today’s fast-paced, fast food-eating and stressed-out society, tummy problems are a mainstream problem.

Based on the results of 14 additional studies on activated charcoal, the University of Michigan Health System recommends charcoal for cases of poisoning (50-100 grams for adults, 10-25 grams for children), preventing intestinal gas (between 500 and 1000 mg per day) and lowering blood cholesterol (4-32 grams per day).

Things You Need To Consider Before Consuming Activated Charcoal:

  • Drinking activated charcoal on a regular basis may cause constipation.
  • According to Time Magazine, it’s crucial that you remember that charcoal will bind to anything that is absorbable, therefore, it can also remove nutrients from the body. Eating nutrient-rich food and taking charcoal at the same time can be counter-productive, leaving you with less or no benefits.
  • It’s best not to drink activated charcoal within 2 hours of taking any important supplements or medications, as it can absorb those too.
  • Use activated charcoal as a detoxification tool only once in awhile, but not as a daily drink.

Where Can You Buy Activated Charcoal?

Activated charcoal can be purchased in capsules online, at health food stores or at vitamin shops. There are a large variety of products on the market with really good reviews. Most of them are praised for their amazing healing effects on intestinal issues.

The best option is to look around, read reviews, check the prices and make the decision that feels right for you.

How Do You Take Activated Charcoal?
An easy way to use activated charcoal is simply mixing it with a glass of water. An even better way to take it with more cleansing benefits as results of the other ingredients, is making your own charcoal lemonade!

  • 16 oz of filtered water
  • 1 organic lemon
  • 1-2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1-2 capsules of activated charcoal
  • 1 pinch of Himalayan salt
  • Fresh herbs like thyme, rosemary, or basil (optional)
  1. Squeeze lemon into the water in a measuring cup.
  2. Add salt and maple syrup.
  3. Mix it until all is dissolved.
  4. Pour ⅔ of the mix to a mason jar.
  5. Open the capsules and add the charcoal powder into the remaining water.
  6. Mix the charcoal and the water.
  7. Add it to the mason jar with the lemon water.
  8. Mix it well.
  9. Add herbs if desired.
  10. Enjoy!

I started with Fitlife back in 2011-2012…I wrote into Fitlife asking for an extreme amount of help. I was 300 pounds, with high cholesterol, and Drew helped me transform my life.
