Whiten Your Teeth Naturally With Ingredients You Never Realized Could!
By Brandi Monasco
It’s natural to have your teeth become discolored over time. Not very appealing, but it’s natural. Especially if you’re a heavy coffee drinker or smoker.
Our society is obsessed with having your image perfect, even your teeth. Do you often see those photoshopped images in magazines where the models have blindingly white teeth? Yeah. We’re obsessed.
Drinking coffee and smoking aren’t the only culprits that make your teeth discolored. In fact, certain foods that you eat and drinks you consume can wear away your teeth’s enamel coating, which is what helps to keep your teeth white. Drinking certain kinds of tea and indulging in sodas and sugary sweets also break down your enamel and once it’s gone, it’s gone.
If you find yourself struggling with discolored teeth, try these amazing home remedies that can help you make your teeth a pretty pearly white color again!
1. Strawberries, Salt And Baking Soda
Strawberries are packed with vitamin C, which helps to break down plaque on your teeth that causes them to look yellow or discolored. Strawberries also have an enzyme called malic acid that helps in removing stains from the surface of your teeth.
The salt helps to restore any minerals that have been lost in your teeth and acts as an abrasive to scrub away anything that causes stains.
Baking soda also provides an abrasive benefit, which helps remove plaque and stains from your teeth. The baking soda basically just adds to the scrub and it is optional if you choose to use it or not.
- 1-3 large strawberries
- Pinch of sea salt
- ½ teaspoon of baking soda
Mash the strawberries until they are mush and add the salt and baking soda. Wipe your teeth dry before applying the mixture and let it stay sitting on your teeth for 5 minutes. To get the best results, repeat this process every night before bed.
2. Lemon And Baking Soda
Again, the baking soda acts as an abrasive to help remove stains and plaque from your teeth. However, the lemon in this mixture is rich in vitamin C, which has a bleaching property that helps in getting rid of the discoloration. Because lemons have this bleaching property, it is best to not use this mixture every day, but just a couple of times a week.
Start with a couple spoonfuls of baking soda. Mix it with lemon juice until you have the consistency of toothpaste. Dry your teeth. Use your toothbrush and apply a good amount of the mixture to your teeth. Leave the mixture on for one minute. Rinse your mouth with cool water.
3. Coconut Oil
You won’t exactly be brushing your teeth with coconut oil. Instead, this is a process called oil pulling. Coconut oil has a component called lauric acid that helps to remove bacteria in your mouth as well as plaque from your teeth. Coconut oil also helps in keeping your gums healthy and your breath fresh.
Before brushing your teeth, spoon out a tablespoon of coconut oil and place it in your mouth. Swish it around your mouth and “pull” the oil through your teeth. The coconut oil will quickly turn from a solid to an actual oil. Continue swishing the oil in your mouth for about 15 minutes. Spit out and rinse with water and then brush your teeth as normal.
Whitening your teeth doesn’t have to be painful for your mouth or your wallet. Instead of purchasing those expensive home whitening kits or getting it professionally done, you can simply try one of these home remedies to get the job done. It will save you hundreds of dollars and best of all, it’s chemical-free! Give one of these methods a try and let us know how it goes!
