What To Do To Determine Your Path In Life – Mindset Monday

7 years ago I was living a completely different life. I was depressed, drinking every weekend, using alcohol to disconnect, trying to find that “something” that would bring meaning and sense to my day-to-day life and coming up short.  

I’ve learned a few things since then about finding your path, being true to who you are and living a life that makes you WANT to wake up every morning. Sound insane? Impossible? It isn’t. I’m living it. And so can you.

Today, I want to talk about how to find your path. I want to give you the tools that took me years to figure out, that will bring you that happiness and fulfillment you’ve been looking for. I’ve been where you are. And I know how badly you want to get to the other side of that mountain, over that obstacle that’s been standing in your way for so long.

Here are three steps to help you find your path:

Step One: Observe From A High Level

Are you running through life like a crazy person, never taking a breath or a moment to evaluate?

Take a step back and evaluate your life from all aspects. Get as high above everything as possible so you can get a clear view of the bigger picture. This way you can create a strategy for getting where you want to go. You can predict possible obstacles and barriers, areas of difficulty and be more prepared when you come face to face with them.  

Seem obvious? You would be surprised at how many people DON’T do this! I see lots of people running off to college and getting degrees or jumping into relationships and families because it’s what they “should” do. Even if their heart is not in it, they plow down the hill of life like a crazy person just to try and get where they think they want to go. Not surprisingly, a lot of them crash and burn!

A sad number of these people end up in a career or long-term path that they HATE. They wake up in the morning unsure of their purpose or why they are doing what they do. And yet they trudge on.

Be like a hawk. Step back and observe.

Step Two: Acknowledge Yourself

A lot of times people get so focused on the end result that they don’t enjoy the journey. And in the meantime, they forget about the most important person they are taking the journey with. Themself.

Do you take time to congratulate yourself on how far you’ve come? On all your hard work and effort? When is the last time you praised yourself for being a better person than you were X number of days, weeks, months or years ago?

Acknowledge yourself along the way. Remember YOU.

Step Three: Mind The Unexpected

When you are on the path to find your destiny, you will come up against many tests. How you react to and take on these tests will ultimately define you. They will show you who you really are. They will bring into the limelight your true character.

Remember to hold a strong vision from step one of where you are going and how badly you want it. What is on the other side of the pain, the discomfort, that makes it all worth it? Who will you be when you emerge? Paint that vision clearly in your mind.

That will get you through the tough spots.

There’s going to be struggle. You are going to have ups and downs. There are going to be things that come up that you do NOT want to go though, but have to because your destination is on the other side.

In the end, you WILL make it, my friend.
