What This Husband Said to His Overweight
Wife Is Genius
By Drew Canole
I recently went to out to dinner with two couples.
For the sake of this article, I’ll call them Dave and Debbie. And Tim and Vicki. Both have been happily married for over 10 years.
We had a great time. We talked about all sorts of things. World affairs. Jobs. Kids. Health.
But it was when we talked about weight loss, that’s when I got really curious…
Because unknown to me at the time, Debbie revealed THE SECRET to how a man can help motivate his woman to lose weight. (And she’ll love you for it!)
It was amazing to watch the different reactions of the group to her words.
It seems at one point in her marriage to Dave, Debbie had been significantly overweight. By over 40 pounds.
At the time, she was very self-conscious about how she looked and felt.
She wasn’t overweight now. In fact, she looked really good. Extremely healthy. But I’m always curious how someone has lost significant weight, so in an unabashed sort of way, I asked.
Surprisingly, she said she juiced. And when she wasn’t juicing, she was drinking a green drink throughout the day.
She said THAT ONE STRATEGY allowed her to get back to her normal, healthy weight in about 3 months, without exercising.
Unfortunately, juicing was a challenge though for a few reasons:
It was expensive, and…
It was time consuming to keep up with…
That’s where she said the green drinks came to the rescue.
I asked her what motivated her to lose the weight. What she said made my jaw drop. But not for the reason you think. She said…
Now at this point, if you’re a husband and you’re reading this, I can probably guess what you’re thinking. You’re thinking…
“Yeah, maybe if I encourage my wife… if I give her ideas… if I give her more tips… if I critique her from time to time and tell her how she looks… that’ll motivate her…”
Um, not quite.
Listen closely, because here’s the secret.
Here’s what Debbie said…
“You know what motivated me most? My husband. Dave would occasionally see me juicing and say ‘You know honey, it doesn’t matter to me what you weigh, because I’ll still always love you.’ Each time he’d say that, I would just melt right on the spot. It motivated me even more.”
And at that point at dinner, Dave looked into Debbie’s eyes and kissed her.
Romantic, for sure.
Right now, I’ll be honest. I’m a guy and to me? What Dave said to Debbie is counterintuitive.
How could telling someone that you’re perfectly ok with them being overweight, motivate them?
But trust me, to a woman? It does.
Because out of the corner of my eye, as I was listening to Debbie tell her story, I was noticing Vicki silently nodding her head.
Now, Vicki IS overweight. Probably 50 pounds overweight. And although she was quiet on the subject, it seems Debbie’s comments had A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT on her.
How do I know?
After dinner ended, Tim and Vicki were driving me home. I was in the back seat.
Initially, Vicki was silent. But I could tell something was up. A couple of minutes into our drive, Vicki blurts out…
“I hope you were taking notes, Tim.”
Tim looks at me. I look at him. We both don’t know what the heck she’s talking about. We talked about so many things at dinner.
After a bit of an awkward silence, she says….
“Did you listen to what Debbie said? How Dave said he still loved her even though she was overweight?”
Here it comes…
“When have you ever said that to me?”
That’s when it landed. When a woman is overweight, THAT’S what you call encouragement to her. That’s what motivates her.
You see, if a woman is overweight, she’s acutely aware of it. She doesn’t need to be reminded. She definitely doesn’t need to be criticized.
The point did not escape Tim, either. Because at that point, Tim pulls the car over, reached over and right there, kissed his wife deeply.
And he says…
“Vicki, I really don’t care how much you weigh, because I’ll always love you.”
And just when I thought it couldn’t get any more romantic, it did.
Debbie was right. Women melt when their man says that to them.
Something amazing happened in that car that night. I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if a few months from now, Vicki loses all the weight as well.
As we were saying our goodbyes, Vicki asked me to send her some of my Organifi Green Juice. I created Organifi as a great tasting green drink you just mix with water when you don’t have time for juicing.
She wanted to try it. She had no idea you could use it for weight loss. She thought it was just for health nuts, like me. 😉
Maybe I’ve got to get the word out more.
