Tired of breaking out every time you put a cream on your face – rashes, bumps, acne, etc.? Even when applying beauty products, you actually end up doing more damage than good.
Beautifying aids nowadays have an alarmingly high ratio of chemical content, chemicals that your sensitive skin just isn’t programmed to put up with.
But here’s a natural alternative: Echinacea.
Despite what the name might sound like, echinacea is the name given to 9 species of a beautiful flower, belonging to the daisy family. Being native to America, it is mostly found blooming in eastern and central North America. It has beautiful purple petals and a cone shaped large seed head, which gives off a miniature hedgehog look. This look has earned it its local name: the purple cone flower.
So, what’s so special about this herb?
Echinacea has countless properties that you can benefit from. To start with, the pleasant honey scented flower can do wonders for your skin.
Acne is a nemesis to many of us, but echinacea has proven that it can handle this job. The essence of these purple cone flowers works instantly by breaking down the swelling and redness that acne can cause. Not only this, but echinacea is loaded with anti-bacterial properties, which allow you to have a more permanent solution from the acne-causing bacteria if used daily.
Echinacea has also a use in skin relaxants. It can be used for soothing all those red patches and rashes that you might have. It is also the perfect anti-aging formula, helping you get rid of all those pesky wrinkles. It contains tannins, which work like an astringent to shrink those cells.
Aided with the vitamins A, C and E also packed in the herb, echinacea completely revitalizes your skin, giving you a healthier, firmer and glowing appearance. Many herbal creams and lotions which incorporate echinacea are available. Used often, they really can work miracles.
The list of goodies doesn’t end here. These purple cone flowers can do a world of good for your hair. It improves the blood circulation in your scalp, helping your hair follicles to get better nourishment. This promotes a healthier scalp environment and ultimately more hair growth.
You can also try combinations of echinacea with tea tree oil and aloe vera gel to make a hair mask. The combined properties of these nutritive products will make your hair more lustrous, thick and shiny.
As an added bonus, the herb also has anti-dandruff properties. If it is used constantly, it is sure to get rid of those white specs for good. No more itchy scalps to worry about!
To use echinacea for acne breakouts, you will need to take the tincture 2 to 3 times a day during the time of your breakout. You can also apply the tincture directly to unopened acne blemishes 2 to 3 times a day until the inflammation is reduced.
- 1 1-pint glass jar, clean
- ¼ cup dried echinacea
- 1 pint vodka
- Place the dried echinacea in the jar.
- Pour the vodka over the top. You may end up using a little less than 1 pint of vodka. Make sure that you fill the jar to the shoulder so that there is a little room left at the top.
- Seal the jar tightly with the lid.
- Leave the mixture at room temperature unopened for 6 weeks. Shake every few days.
- After the 6 weeks have passed, strain the herbs out of the vodka. You can do this by placing a cheesecloth over a large bowl and securing it with a rubber band. Pour the mixture into the cheesecloth, allowing to drain for a few minutes.
- When the mixture is drained, use your hand to wrap the cheesecloth around the herbs and squeeze out the excess liquid.
- Throw away the herbs.
