Turmeric is one of my alltime favorite foods. I enjoy adding this root to my cooking to spice things up and to take it in capsule form to help my achy joints. This super versatile root is a cousin to another of my favorite plants, ginger and is a must-have for any kitchen or medicine cabinet!
Turmeric is a powerful spice that has been used for thousands of years. It is a common ingredient in both Asian and Indian dishes. If you enjoy curry, you have probably already experienced this awesome herb.
Turmeric is a powerful anti-inflammatory medicine that is rich with antioxidants and can greatly enhance your immune system. This spice has a long history in both traditional chinese medicine and Ayurvedic traditions in India.
Curcumin, which is the key ingredient in turmeric, acts as a powerful topical antibacterial agent, meaning it is great for killing infections on the surface of the skin. Not only can it kill bacterial infections, but it can also kill fungal infections on the skin. This means that you can help ringworm or athlete’s foot with a homemade turmeric paste.
Turmeric will stain your skin orange. The stain will fade after a few days, but don’t be surprised if your treated area is a little brighter for a bit.
It may be interesting to note that there are many herbs that are effective against fungal infections that are also very colorful and stain the skin, or anything they touch to be honest. Could there be some special antibacterial/antifungal action going on in the pigments? In any case, my counter still has a few bright spots from curry night a few days ago.
Take your paste and apply it directly to the infected skin once or twice a day until your infection is completely gone.
Ringworm, athlete’s foot and other minor infections should respond within a short week or two, but tenacious fungal infections such as finger or toenail infections can require a much longer recovery period and other herbal remedies as well. Of course, if the issue still persists, be sure to go see your family doctor.
I know we have all heard about how wonderful turmeric can be for our entire bodies. Yet the more I dig and research, the more this wonder plant continues to astound me.
This paste is wonderful and really does work! Are there any other alternative tricks of the trade that you have come across? If so, then let’s discuss them in the comments below!
