Toxin Overload Alert! Why You Need To Make Your Own Makeup
Written by: Lindsay Sibson
“I feel pretty, OH so pretty…”
It’s pretty witty nowadays whenever I decide to put on some makeup, because I usually forget… rub my eyes… and end up looking like a racoon.
I used to LOVE makeup. I had drawers full of the stuff!
However, once I did a bit of research about what was IN the makeup I was using – it promptly ended up in the trash!
Here I was, taking care to buy organic food, exercise and stay as zen as possible. YET, I was slathering toxic chemicals on my face e-v-e-r-y-d-a-y. Talk about counterproductivity!
Read on to learn about WHY and HOW to DIY your own natural makeup.
Why Make Your Own Makeup?
What goes ON your body is just as important as what goes IN.
This means that the lotions, makeup, toothpaste, shampoos and other beauty products you use are either enhancing or threatening your health.
Because cosmetics aren’t subject to the same oversight as food and medicine by the Food and Drug Administration, many of the popular brands are hiding harsh chemicals that have been linked to cancer, birth defects and organ failure – WHAT THE?!
The FDA isn’t responsible for deciding if new cosmetic ingredients are safe or not… it is up to the manufacturer to decide if a product is safe or not.
There is NO WAY you can take the risk of leaving your health and safety in the hands of a profit-hungry manufacturer!
Basic DIY Makeup Recipes
Directions: Place the arrowroot and green clay in a bowl. Add the cinnamon, nutmeg and cacao powder to achieve your desired shade.
Directions: Place the powder foundation in a bowl and slowly add the coconut oil until you get the consistency you want:
- Less oil for a heavier foundation
- More oil for a lighter foundation
- A few drops of oil to create a concentrated concealer
Directions: In a container with a lid, add 1 tablespoon of arrowroot powder and then start by adding 1 teaspoon of hibiscus powder. Continue adding hibiscus powder until you reach your desired shade.
Directions: In a small saucepan, mix together the oil, butter, wax and gel until melted. Mix in activated charcoal and remove from heat. Pour the mixture into a plastic bag and allow to cool. Move mixture to the corner of the bag and cut a small hole. Squeeze into a clean mascara tube.
Directions: Mix together all ingredients and store in an airtight container in a dark and cool place. Use a clean brush to apply.
Directions: In a small saucepan, mix the beeswax, honey and almond oil. Heat until it melts and then allow to cool. Stir in the essential oil and place into a small container with a lid.
There ya have it! A full face of makeup using only natural ingredients…
