Top Uses Of Lavender Essential Oil

By Brandi Monasco

Did you know that Egyptians used lavender essential oil for mummification and as a perfume? Pretty interesting fact!

People are not exactly mummified anymore, but lavender essential oil is still pretty popular, mainly because of the relaxing scent it has and the amazing benefits it provides for your body and mind.

On top of that, it has been proven to be effective for helping a variety of ailments, anything from pain to infections.

Here are some of the top benefits of lavender essential oil:

1. It Improves Your Mood And Supports Your Brain

Lavender has been used traditionally to aid and alleviate the symptoms of neurological issues such as stress, anxiety, migraines and depression.

One study has shown that using 80 mg supplement capsules of lavender essential oil can help alleviate the symptoms of anxiety and depression and also help with sleep disturbances.

To help relieve stress and improve your sleep, place an oil diffuser beside your bed at night and fill it with lavender essential oil. You can even put the diffuser in the family room to get the benefits of the oil while you are winding down for the night.

2. It Helps Alleviate Symptoms From Respiratory Disorders

Using lavender essential oil can help alleviate the symptoms from respiratory problems such as coughs, flus, colds, asthma, bronchitis, tonsillitis and sinus congestion.

If you are suffering from one of these ailments, adding lavender to your diffuser can certainly help. The aroma of lavender is stimulating and helps in loosening up phlegm and gunk that can often come along with these respiratory conditions.

To help alleviate respiratory condition symptoms, simply diffuse lavender essential oil in your favorite diffuser. You can also apply the oil to your neck, chest or back. If you place the oil on your skin, remember to dilute the oil with a carrier oil to avoid skin irritation.

3. It Helps Alleviate Pain

Lavender essential oil can ease the pain of sore or tense muscles and also backaches, sprains and joint pains. Simply add a few drops of the oil into the palm of your hands and massage the area that has pain.

A study concluded that when lavender essential oil is combined with the oxygen in the room, the amount of pain experienced by postoperative patients was significantly reduced.

Lavender essential oil is also great for alleviating headaches. Combine lavender essential oil with peppermint essential oil and rub the mixture on the back of your neck and on your temples while inhaling the aroma. You will only need 2 drops of each oil.

4. It Helps Skin Disorders And Wounds

Lavender essential oil is known for its antimicrobial properties. In fact, it can help speed the recovery of cuts, scrapes and wounds. Lavender essential oil can also be used to help eczema, psoriasis and acne. The oil helps in forming scar tissues that are essential for healing wounds.

Lavender oil can also be used for itchy skin and insect bites. If you are using lavender essential oil for burns or eczema, mix the oil with coconut oil to get maximum medicinal benefits.

Lavender essential oil is effective due to the soothing fragrance and aroma of the oil. It can be applied topically to your skin or inhaled as a steam vapor from being diffused in your favorite essential oil diffuser. You can also find dried lavender flowers and create lavender tea.

To calm your mind and your nerves before bedtime to get restful sleep:

  • Boil 8 oz of water.
  • Place 4 teaspoon of lavender buds into a sachet or tea ball.
  • Place the tea ball and water in a cup.
  • Let it steep for 10 minutes.
  • Enjoy!

During my FitLife transformation, I lost 70 pounds! That's why I signed up for the protocol, but the most exciting result is that I found ME in the process. I had been hiding under a pile of pounds, self-doubt, and grief! FitLife changed my life and I knew I had to share it with others.

-Lynne, Longwood FL

I started with Fitlife back in 2011-2012…I wrote into Fitlife asking for an extreme amount of help. I was 300 pounds, with high cholesterol, and Drew helped me transform my life. I lost over 130 pounds and I no longer have high cholesterol. Not only did I lose weight, so did my husband, who lost over 70 pounds!
