Top Superfood For Yogis And A Trick To Double Its Potency
Written by: Abi Carver
“The world belongs to those with the most energy.” – Alexis de Tocqueville
It’s true – yogis need superfoods too! It’s all the bending, flexing, twisting, inverting and exploring you do with your body. The energy, focus and discipline required to commit to a regular practice can be exhausting. So to make sure you don’t get depleted and that your practice actually energizes and renews you, add this one simple superfood to your daily regimen and watch your energy soar…
- Mix 1 tablespoon with warm water or add it to your smoothies and juices
Maca is a root historically grown in Peru that is used as an aphrodisiac, cognitive enhancer and energy booster. Within a couple of days, many people experience a boost in their energy levels, endurance and stamina, which is why athletes are increasingly taking it to boost their performance.
Maca is a powerhouse of phytochemicals, vitamins, including B1, B2, B12, C, E and zinc, amino acids, fatty acids and essential dietary minerals, including selenium, magnesium, iron, calcium, phosphorous and potassium. This high concentration of vital nutrients act in synergy to give you a natural, non-caffeinated energy boost that lasts for hours.
So how do you double its potency?
And it’s not just by doubling the dose! It may seem counter-intuitive but twice as much rarely equates to twice as good. Think 2 glasses of white wine vs. 4 glasses of white wine or 1 boss vs. 2 bosses. Most of life just doesn’t work like a mathematical equation. In fact in the realm of exercise and diet, it’s quality not quantity that matters most.
Here’s what you do. After a couple of days taking maca, start to use your yoga practice as a testing ground for tuning into changes in your energy levels. By paying attention to the actual sensations in your body, you will notice how much more energized you feel. This creates a momentum that builds and builds the more mindful you are.
During Your Yoga Session
- Slow down and really pay attention to how your muscles feel.
- Step out of automatic mode and fully engage with your body and your experience.
- Remember to breathe.
- Wriggle around in the poses and find the position that offers you the most relief rather than the one you’re supposed to be in.
- Be adventurous and explore variations of familiar poses.
- Play with your balance, close your eyes, let go of how you think things should look and flow with how you feel.
- Trust that you and only you know what your body and mind need moment to moment.
At The End Of Your Yoga Session
When you’re lying on your mat in Final Resting pose allowing the yoga to settle into your body, listen to this short, guided body scan meditation in which you systematically move your awareness through each part of your body and draw your attention to the presence of sensation in a highly focused way. When your body and mind are completely relaxed, ask yourself the following questions:
- Do I feel more energetic?
- Can I feel the vibrations moving through my body?
- Do I feel lighter, springier and more agile? More buzzy and vibrant?
- Do I feel less resistance towards tackling the day ahead?
- Does my brain feel faster and more alert?
- Am I excited rather than anxious? If so, how does that feel in my body?
Take a few moments to really engage with your experience instead of letting it pass you by without leaving an imprint.
Einstein proposed the theory E = mc2 and I am not saying he’s wrong. I just invite you to test out a new theory:
energy = yoga + maca + mindfulness

Make use of this information to hype up your very own detoxification! Start now!
The detoxification process can also take in the form of a juice fast. Here at FitLife.TV, we recommend people to try the Alpha Reset (AR). The Alpha Reset is a 5 Day Juice Fast. It is part of the Juice with Drew System. This is the first step in your detoxification process. If you are just starting out with juicing, do not jump right into a juice fast right away. Just try 1 juice per day along with the rest of your nutrition and see how your body responds. If your body responds well to juicing, then ramp up the number of juices per day. These healthy, nutrient-dense juices can replace that coffee you reach for in the morning or that soda in the afternoon. Here are some of our followers that have tried the Alpha Reset!
