Top Foods To Eat To Promote Weight Loss

Written by: Brandi Monasco

Ever wondered why many of the clothes in your wardrobe no longer fit? Perhaps they’ve become “not-your-size” and you miss being able to wear anything you want. Losing weight sure comes in handy here and next to fashion, good health is a plus.

This doesn’t mean that you have to be very selective in your diet; instead, you can eat more foods that are delicious, filling and capable of speeding up the weight loss process.

Top Foods To Eat To Promote Weight Loss

Fruits with more water content have been known to aid in weight loss. These fruits include water melons, oranges, bananas and avocados. They have a way of improving your body’s metabolism and helping it to burn calories. They are known as low energy density foods.

Other helpful fruits include lemons, limes and grapefruits. They also give you a ‘filling’ feeling, which makes you feel like you have eaten enough already and prevents you from overeating.

Although many people have problems with eating legumes, a report from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics discusses how certain foods aid weight loss because they make you feel fuller for longer and help you to stay away from cravings. Beans are one of these and you don’t have to restrict yourself to just one variety. Explore all the types of beans there are and find your favorites.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is known to be healthy and good for reducing belly fat. So why not consider replacing your other cooking fats with it? Be careful not to add it to other cooking oils though, because coconut oil has its own calories.

If you’re someone who doesn’t love salads, you may want to give your taste buds a run for their money. Cabbage and lettuce are good for boosting the immune system. They are also known as great weight loss foods. Spinach, cucumber, celery, green pepper and broccoli also belong in this family and if you cannot eat them by simply frying them in your sauce pan, you may want to consider trying out a new salad recipe, such as this one:

Quinoa Spinach Salad
  1. In a medium bowl, rinse the quinoa a few times.
  2. In a medium saucepan, boil 2 cups of salted water. Add the quinoa and continue to boil for about 10 minutes until the quinoa is tender.
  3. Drain the quinoa and let it cool.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the spinach, tomatoes, cucumbers, raisins and cooled quinoa.
  5. In a small bowl, make your lemon vinaigrette. Combine the lemon juice, olive oil, salt and pepper. Pour onto the salad and toss to coat.
  6. Season to taste with more salt and pepper, if needed.

Cut Down On Carbohydrates

This may seem like an old tale, but reducing the quantity of pastas and whole breads in your diet can help you lose weight. The starchy content in these foods mostly ends up getting stored in the body, further adding to the calories that the body doesn’t need.

If you’re wanting to start a diet plan to lose weight, or even if you already are on one, these are great guidelines to go by when you’re shopping for your groceries for the week. You don’t have to be too selective in what you eat, just as long as you’re getting nutritious and healthy foods that help fill you up.

What Our Clients Say*

During my FitLife transformation, I lost 70 pounds! That's why I signed up for the protocol, but the most exciting result is that I found ME in the process. I had been hiding under a pile of pounds, self-doubt, and grief! FitLife changed my life and I knew I had to share it with others.

-Lynne, Longwood FL

I started with Fitlife back in 2011-2012…I wrote into Fitlife asking for an extreme amount of help. I was 300 pounds, with high cholesterol, and Drew helped me transform my life. I lost over 130 pounds and I no longer have high cholesterol. Not only did I lose weight, so did my husband, who lost over 70 pounds!
