It’s just about time for spring cleaning!
This time of the year, we spend so much time and energy cleaning out closets, sweeping up dust bunnies and cleaning behind the fridge (it’s amazing what I find behind there… how does it get there?!).
But what about supporting your very own “Master Cleanser”… your liver?
This important organ has worked hard for you this winter – Nana’s holiday pies, ringing in the New Year with a glass (or five) of champagne and those gooey, fried mozzarella snacks at the super bowl party… Don’t you think you need to show this gem of a system a little love?

Beets promote increased liver function with beta-carotene. Beets are a high-antioxidant vegetable that contain a number of nutrients that have been shown to be cleansing and detoxifying. Try some beet juice as an afternoon pick me up instead of coffee.
Onions activate liver enzymes, which are meant to flush toxins. They contain sulfur-containing amino acids, which efficiently detox the liver. Try adding onions to your morning omelet, stir-fry or salads.
Dandelion supports liver function and bile production and can help rid your overtaxed liver of toxins without straining or stressing your system. It contains electrolyte-replenishing potassium and colon cleansing, gut-satiating fiber, which helps to ease the process and is chock-full of nutrients. Try a cup of dandelion tea. Simply mix all of the ingredients and voila, a tasty spring cleaning meal for your liver! You can make a big batch and enjoy it for several days. Add sliced avocado – another liver detoxifying superstar – right before eating. Consider organic produce to ease the liver’s workload as well.
