Eating organic, local and plant foods is the best way to go for your health and well-being and for the entire planet. And here’s why:

1. Your Health.

Though you are not only your body, your body is the physical base of your mind and soul. Your body is your home – the place you reside – so you better take care of it.

Highly processed and refined foods cause inflammation and take a lot of energy for your digestive system to break down. In this process, the body experiences tremendous stress, harmful toxins get released, inflammation is created and diseases develop. Simply put, when you eat poorly, your body becomes sick and tired. But the more vegetables and fruits you eat, the less stress you put on your body and the more balance you create within.

Eating (and drinking) more vegetables and fruits provides your body with essential vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that are easily digestible, are used as fuel, allow for the potential to reverse or prevent diseases and keep you healthy and happy. Because you don’t want chemicals to damage your already taxed body, you want to choose organic as much as possible to keep your system clean and your mind clear. Choosing local allows you to eat seasonally, letting your body stay in touch with nature’s rhythm all around it. Plus, seasonal produce is more flavorful and it’s less expensive!

2. The Environment.

Looking at the bigger picture, our planet is your home. You want to live in a safe, happy and healthy environment, so therefore it is important to take care of it – otherwise you won’t have anywhere to live at all.

Reducing your carbon footprint is one way to take care of the environment and lower your contribution to climate change. Animal agriculture accounts for 18% of carbon emission, so eating plant-based (even if not completely animal product-free) is better for the environment. Organic food includes no toxins, hence providing no toxins to the environment either. Local produce involves fewer food miles and therefore creates a lower carbon footprint.

3. The Local Economy.

In today’s world, there are so many things that are out of our control. Huge corporations and businesses control so much on our planet, it is difficult to even know simple things like what’s on our plate and how it got there.

Don’t you want to live in a world where you have a say in what is going on, where you know where you food is coming from, where you know what you are putting in your body and what you are feeding your family?

By buying local, seasonal and organic produce, you are doing just that: you are taking back control, you are supporting your local farmers and businesses and you are actually contributing to positive change in your community and spreading the ripple effect by you’re contributing to a healthier world overall.

4. Compassion.

Believe it or not, by eating more local, organic and plant-based food, you will develop compassion for yourself, your friends, your family, your community, the animals and the environment.

Despite being one of the most unjust and cruel practices, factory farming of animals is still continuing in today’s world. When choosing local and organic vegetables and fruits, you will know that your food got there without causing any harm – and, as a bonus, it really is the healthiest food on the planet.

Healthy, ethical and environmentally friendly: that is food that you can truly feel good about. You may not be inclined to completely eliminate animal products, but just choosing ethically raised and organic products is a healthier option all around and is better for the environment and the animals.

When you truly start connecting the dots and really start thinking about what is on your plate, you will feel more compassion and therefore find yourself feeling happier and healthier too.
