When someone mentions the word “ginger,” you likely end up thinking of a strange yellow root with a very distinctive smell.
Ginger is actually a spice that is used in different types of foods and drinks – everything from ginger beer to gingerbread and gingersnaps (yes, there really is ginger in those cookies!).
Ginger originated in the tropical jungles of Southern Asia and is now used in everyday households around the world. Not only is ginger a spice found in many foods, but it is also believed that ginger has many health benefits. The health benefits and medicinal uses of ginger have been known for over 2,000 years.

3. Helps fight colds – Ginger is a natural antiviral, which can help your body fight against illnesses and bacteria that cause colds. It also acts as an antihistamine and decongestant, which is what is needed when you’re fighting a cold. Try consuming foods with ginger as an added spice or try a cup of ginger tea.
Many people enjoy ginger and it is relatively easy to find. It can be found at any supermarket in both the root and powder form. Healthy candied ginger can also give you these great health benefits, as well as ginger essential oil.
