Tips For Spring Cleaning Your Body

By Kavata Kithome

Spring is upon us, can you believe it? This year is going by so fast!

Spring is always thought of as a time for new beginnings, birth and growth. For most of us, we are beginning to spring clean our living spaces in order to make room for growth and new changes. This is also a great time to “spring clean” your body!

As a health coach, I stress seasonal eating, as your body is greatly impacted by the foods you eat at different times of the year. In my experience, eating seasonal foods, can really help your body stay fortified and in optimum health.

As far as spring goes, here are 4 tips to help you transition smoothly and easily into the new season.

1. Homemade Juices

At fitlife, we love our juice. We share with and tag each other on social media when we create a delicious juice recipe. Fresh vegetable juices provide extra nutrients that help your body eliminate toxins.

My favorite cleansing veggies are parsley, kale (dinosaur kale is my favorite), chard, mustard greens, spinach, bok choy and arugula. Generally, we suggest having a 4:1 ratio – 4 parts vegetable, 1 part fruit, especially if going straight green is something brand new for you. If you need some ideas for where to get started with your own juicing, check out some of the recipes we have here.

2. Flush Your System

I think water is my favorite drink, but let’s face it, it can get kind of boring sometimes (I wrote on this very topic previously and that can be viewed here). I love looking for fun ways to stay hydrated and flush my system. Some of my favorite ways are to drink herbal teas and add fruit to my water.

As you may know by now, I love tea. Aside from the fact that there are so many teas to choose from, tea is very versatile. You can drink it warm or cold and it is a great tool to use for cleansing and hydration.

For your water, you can drop in some sweet fruits like strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries, or citrus fruits like orange, lemon and lime. Add some water based fruits and veggies like cucumber and celery or add some herbs like mint, ginger, licorice root, nettles, fennel, cinnamon and cardamom. If you are feeling adventurous, you can combine many of these. The possibilities are endless.

3. Manage Your Stress Levels

Now that the holidays are over and everyone has gone back to their respective homes, schools, etc., it is time to work on managing your stress. Stress can lead to liver flow blockage and bring about issues like IBS, bloating, heartburn, palpitations and even headaches.

You can help manage your stress by taking moments to press pause, reset and most importantly, moving in some form of exercise. Even just going on a walk for 20 minutes a day can help you immensely.

4. Being Present While Eating

Take the time to eat well and fuel your body. When eating, eat mindfully, chew and enjoy your meal fully and while being completely present. Include foods that ease intestinal and stomach discomfort like cucumber, banana, papaya, asparagus, fennel seeds, ginger, peppermint and chamomile in your diet whenever possible.

Remember, spring is a time of renewal, rebirth and growth. Support your body by adding these few tips and watch how your health begins to flourish.

What Our Clients Say*

During my FitLife transformation, I lost 70 pounds! That's why I signed up for the protocol, but the most exciting result is that I found ME in the process. I had been hiding under a pile of pounds, self-doubt, and grief! FitLife changed my life and I knew I had to share it with others.

-Lynne, Longwood FL

I started with Fitlife back in 2011-2012…I wrote into Fitlife asking for an extreme amount of help. I was 300 pounds, with high cholesterol, and Drew helped me transform my life. I lost over 130 pounds and I no longer have high cholesterol. Not only did I lose weight, so did my husband, who lost over 70 pounds!
