Your thyroid is a gland in the front of your neck, controlled by your pituitary gland. It’s responsible for releasing hormones that control our energy levels, our metabolism, and how our heart, muscles, liver, and other organs work together.
Hypothyroidism is the condition occurring when the thyroid glands don’t produce enough of their hormones. (T3 and T4). When this happens, all of the body’s processes slow down. Some estimated statistics report that 30 million Americans suffer from this condition.
Much like fibromyalgia, the initial symptoms of hypothyroidism may be overlooked or misdiagnosed. However if you experience swollen joints, thinning hair, impaired memory, drastic weight gain and a slowed heart rate, you should consult your physician immediately, especially if pregnant.
This condition, depending on severity, is typically treated with synthetic hormones, and you should always follow the advice of your doctor. Some new research indicates that many hypothyroid patients also suffer from Hashimotos, an auto-immune disease. In addition to consulting your doctor, here are some natural ways to help treat auto-immune diseases, which very well may be the root of many hypothyroidism cases today:
1. Boost Glutathione Intake –
Glutathione is an antioxidant that regulates our immune system and heals thyroid tissue. Peppers, carrots, onion, broccoli, avocados, squash, spinach, eaten raw are a great way to get more of it.
2. Build a healthy gut flora –
1/5th of the thyroid functions require a healthy supply of good gut bacteria. Feed your little friends with probiotics and prebiotics like fermented foods and drinks.
3. Eliminate allergenic foods –
The auto-immune response a hypothyroid patient may experience could be complicated by allergenic foods in their diet. Try to remove processed sugar, dairy, wheat, and nuts from your diet for a few weeks and pay attention to any change in symptoms.
4. Eat more protein –
The transport of thyroid hormones is highly dependent on protein. Depending on your diet, legumes, hemp seeds, organic eggs and other organic meats are great sources of protein.
So now that we know a little bit about what might be irritating some auto-immune diseases, and we know a little bit more about what foods contain nutrients that can help treat the root causes of some auto-immune diseases, let’s use that information to make a delicious recipe:
Thyroid Balancing Stir-Fry (Or you can call this the hypo-stir-fry!) Recipe
Saute veggies until softened, but not over-cooked.
Add 1 clove of garlic if preferred.
Crack in organic eggs and stir until solid.
Sprinkle in Celtic sea salt to taste.
Wow, that was delicious, and the way the lime adds that freshness to the cooked veggies is just wonderful. Did you make the recipe? If you used ORGANIC veggies, than you are probably savoring the flavor as we speak. The purpose of this recipe was to show you how tasty, flavorful, and fragrant a simple nutritious dinner can be, while at the same time helping you HEAL and treat disease. Many followers in our community have overcome their hypothyroid, fibromyalgia, and inflammation issues by changing up their diets, and consuming more foods like these.

During my FitLife transformation, I lost 70 pounds! That's why I signed up for the protocol, but the most exciting result is that I found ME in the process. I had been hiding under a pile of pounds, self-doubt, and grief! FitLife changed my life and I knew I had to share it with others.

I started with Fitlife back in 2011-2012…I wrote into Fitlife asking for an extreme amount of help. I was 300 pounds, with high cholesterol, and Drew helped me transform my life. I lost over 130 pounds and I no longer have high cholesterol. Not only did I lose weight, so did my husband, who lost over 70 pounds!
