THIS part of DNA determines how fast your body ages – Saturday Strategy
POSTED ON June 16, 2016 BY Drew Canole
When you look in the mirror in the morning, are you wondering WHO that person is staring back at you?
What if I told you it was ABSOLUTELY POSSIBLE to look YEARS younger – and it started with the health of your telomeres?
Let’s back up…
You have something IN YOUR BODY that PROTECTS YOUR CELLS from the time you are born – but poor self care causes these age-defying machines to slow down… and you begin to age… maybe A LOT faster than you should.
True story – when I was in my 20’s and partying way too often, sleeping less than I should have been, I looked downright OLD. At least 10-15 years older than I was. I look at pictures now and I can’t believe that was me!
Now in my 30’s, I look younger than I did 10 years ago. But how is that possible?
That’s where your telomeres come in.
These magical little stretches of DNA at the tips of your chromosomes.
They are kind of like the plastic caps on the end of shoelaces and are critical for preserving information in your genome. They keep your chromosome ends from fraying and also prevent dangerous cells from replicating.
What if it were possible to live well into your 50’s, 60’s, 70’s… even into your nineties without losing physical strength and stamina?
I don’t know about you, but I’m looking forward to stepping into my 90’s as a real life superhero – the suit, the x-ray vision – all of it!
Doesn’t that sound amazing?
But instead of looking INWARD – people are spending thousands of dollars every year to look YOUNGER on the outside. When really, aging is an INTERNAL job. And it starts with protecting your telomeres – those little age machines within your body.
Without telomeres, the main part of the chromosome — the part with genes essential for life — would get shorter each time a cell divides. So telomeres allow cells to divide without losing genes. Cell division is necessary for growing new skin, blood, bone, and other cells.
RAYMOND KURZWEIL, one of the key contributors to extreme longevity and full regeneration reminds us that, “We need to re-program our biochemistry.”
That begins IN our body – not outside.
The truth is: one of the best indicators of health, vitality and longevity are your TELOMERES.
Telomeres get shorter every time a cell divides. Lifestyle factors can cause telomeres to shorten as well. If they get TOO short, cells become inactive or genetic damage occurs.
The RATE at which telomeres shorten may predict the pace of aging. Shortening of your telomeres is associated with risk of death, disease and other age-related factors.
COOL FACT: There ARE some cells in your body whose telomeres never shorten! They include sperm and egg cells as well as stem cells.
We Have An Influence On Telomere Shortening – Here’s What To Keep In Mind:
You already know that lifestyle choices play a huge role in your health. What you do – day in and day out – plays a major role in how long these telomeres last… .there is one unique thing you can do too that not a lot of people talk about… I’ll share more on that in a second.
Let’s take a look at the research.
In a study of 2,400 twins, researchers found that the twin who exercised more also had longer telomeres. They didn’t necessarily have to be intense body-builders or world-class athletes either. As little as 30 minutes a day of exercise seemed to make the difference.
In another study of women over 50 researchers found that those who exercised at least 3 hours a week for most of their life had longer telomeres than those who didn’t.
Both oxidative stress and physiological stress seem to have negative impacts on telomere length.
Oxidative stress is generally due to things like smoking and poor diet. Physiological stress can be anything from too much schoolwork to a crazy work schedule to poor relationships, etc. It is different for everyone.
It has been shown in research over and over again: chronic stress leads to a decline in health.
One of the biggest things you can do for your body is to REDUCE all kinds of stress by living a HEALTHY lifestyle and practicing stress-management techniques.
TIP: We put Ashwagandha in our Organifi Green Juice to help combat stress. I am guessing you are BUSY – I know I am! Without Organifi, I can feel my stress increase, which is why I don’t miss a day! You can grab your own bottle right here.
A study showed that Chronic inflammation induces telomere dysfunction and accelerates ageing in mice.
And you know that at Fitlife we are all about reducing inflammation using whole foods, GREEN JUICE and staying active. Plus of course, reducing stress and sleeping enough.
All of it matters!
Inflammation = disease and I know you want to be healthy so you can be there for your children, your spouse, your extended family and your friends.

When studies are laid out across the board, however, the most protective element in someone’s life as far as their telomeres seems to be FOOD.
In a 12 month study of women over 50 years old researchers gauged the effects of weight loss and aerobic exercise on their telomere length. After a 12 month program of weight loss and exercise however, their telomere length didn’t change.
However, another group that focused on DIETARY changes saw significanttelomere protection. They also lost weight faster than the 12-month group and only exercised half as much!
Some early-stage research is showing that proper dietary strategies may not only protect telomeres but even promote LENGTHENING of telomeres. Now THAT is amazing! The power of good food is phenomenal!
So What Should You Eat?
MORE fruits and vegetables and quality meat in moderation. Less processed foods, trans fats and refined sugars. Research has shown this type of diet is the best at protecting your telomeres and promoting longevity.
Some of you might be wondering… If My Telomeres Are Already In Bad Shape, Then What?
Luckily, according to research, “despite past accumulated injury leading to shorter telomere lengths, current healthy behaviors might help to decrease a person’s risk of some of the potential consequences…”
In other words, even if you have made poor choices in the past… it is NEVER too late to start living a healthier lifestyle and the benefits will always be worth the effort.
Although certain things like eating unhealthy food, not exercising much and dealing with too much stress might have taken toll on your telomeres…YOU have the power to give them added protection and length by changing your lifestyle!

During my FitLife transformation, I lost 70 pounds! That's why I signed up for the protocol, but the most exciting result is that I found ME in the process. I had been hiding under a pile of pounds, self-doubt, and grief! FitLife changed my life and I knew I had to share it with others.

I started with Fitlife back in 2011-2012…I wrote into Fitlife asking for an extreme amount of help. I was 300 pounds, with high cholesterol, and Drew helped me transform my life. I lost over 130 pounds and I no longer have high cholesterol. Not only did I lose weight, so did my husband, who lost over 70 pounds!
