This One Habit Could Change Your Life Completely – Mindset Monday

5 years ago I was driven by ego, living my life in a way that was all about the exterior.  How much money I could make. What car I drove. What clothes I wore.

You know that inner voice within? It has tremendous power over your life and happiness.

What is your inner voice telling you to worry about?

A lot of us aren’t even aware of the types of thoughts that we are speaking to ourselves all day long.

Imagine if someone was following you around all day, standing behind your ear…  criticizing the things you did… telling you you weren’t good enough… smart enough… lean enough… motivated enough… bold enough…

Imagine them standing by you day after day with their nose in the air, reminding you of your past mistakes… telling you that other people are watching you and disapproving of your choices…

How would you feel if you had to listen to that 24/7 for days, weeks, months… years?

Maybe you’re someone that DOES have someone like that following you around with a negative voice. In fact, maybe that voice is in your own head.

Some of you have an entire team of selfish narcissists in your head, pretending to be important, screaming at you to be heard. They are weighing you down.

Sound crazy? Think about it for a minute. What does your inner voice sound like? Shine a spotlight on it and call it to the stage… What is it saying to you all day long?

Your inner voices were created as you grew up. Some formed because of what the people around you told you, what you watched on TV and what your peers used to say.

But here’s the deal: that voice is YOUR OWN. And that means that YOU have the power to CHANGE the story you’re telling yourself and create the life of your dreams.

If this sounds scary or ridiculous to you – GOOD. Because change should make you tremble a little. And I get it. I used to HATE change. But now I love it! And you can love it too.

What is it?

INSTEAD OF CRITICIZING YOURSELF, APPROVE OF YOURSELF.

Sounds pretty easy, right? And it can be. But don’t be discouraged if at first it seems a bit challenging.

Remember, like anything new, it may take some time to embrace this new way of thinking – and believing – in yourself.

How do you change this long-learned habit? With these 3 steps:

#1 Observe

As today goes on, I want you to observe your thoughts as they come in and out of your mind. And be honest with yourself – without judgement.

#2 Question

With every thought that comes in ask yourself… Is this thought a thought of love? Is this thought bringing me closer to who I want to be or just pushing me down? Would I speak this way to someone I love dearly?

#3 Adjust

Adjust your thoughts to be more kind, more uplifting, more positive. Instead of blaming yourself, accept yourself. Admit your mistakes, but don’t let them define you. Use them to open you and move into who you are at your core, without apology, shame or guilt.

For example…

Instead of saying: I am lazy and fat because I can’t exercise.

Try: I make empowering choices for my health. This is just a small setback.

This practice of listening to your thoughts will create awareness.

You will become mindful.
