How many times have you called your friend in the middle of the night? The countless visits, hugs and taps on the back, we are all too familiar with. Friends are no doubt a priceless aspect of our life, a fact that many acknowledge.
I know that many can relate when I say that my best friend is my drug. What if I tell you that friends also boost your health? Surprised? Yes, these amazing humans that we stick around, indeed, help our bodies to function better and we are here to explain the many ways they do so.
Good friends with healthy eating habits are likely to keep your diet in check. Say goodbye to obesity as friends with healthier lifestyles are sure to knock some sense into your habits as well. Birds of a feather flock together and definitely when one has a habit of eating vegetables and fruits, it is quite natural that some aspect of these eatables will trigger a change in your lifestyle also.
Not only this, a good friend can help you bring out your physical self as well. May it be jogging partners in the morning or gym mates at any other time, a physically active partner forces you to make an effort too.
The weight problems and eating habits are just the beginning. Good friends are likely to have a really good effect on the health and longevity of your beating heart. Studies have shown a 50% decrease risk of heart attack in people who have close friends as to compared otherwise. Stress is a major factor in the development of many heart diseases and a friend who helps ease the stress out of your life invariably protects your heart.
Also, you relieve your stress in a more constructive way, helping you avoid the harm you are likely to put yourself in when alone. Coupled with the healthy eating habits and lifestyle, an intelligent friend may help you avoid a whole lot of heart trouble.
Not only physically, friends can help you improve your mental health as well. A constant companion to talk to and figure things out with makes your brain work in a constant and healthy fashion. It also gives you the feeling of belonging, an emotion found to be of major importance in dementia patients. People who suffer from loneliness are likely to counteract these mental problems, explaining beautifully the role of friends in avoiding them.
Besides this, the obvious fact stares us in the face. A person with close friends is likely to be mentally satisfied and happy, feelings that are definitely going to improve the overall health of an individual.
From the beginning, a lot of emphasis has been placed on the value of having good friends. Not only are they a social necessity, a person needs his/her companion to get out of his/her mind box as well. The many examples above just outline the ways in which good friends can contribute to your health.
However, along with the good, there is also the bad. Friends influence a lot and having the bad ones can affect you in a negative way. Yes, it is difficult to distinguish between right and wrong, but once found, good friends can really turn your life around!
