This Is What Happens In The First Hour After

Drinking A Coke

Coca-Cola has been getting hit hard by the media lately! And for good reason.

Since information about how coke affects you within ONE HOUR of drinking it has hit the web, it hasn’t stopped circulating. Everyone knows (even if they don’t like to admit it) that coke and soda are bad for you. It only gets worse the more often you drink it.

People have the freedom to choose, of course (although companies are formulating products that SPECIFICALLY cause you to crave more of them!) but sometimes we have to wonder if certain products should even be on the SHELVES for people to choose at all!

It might not surprise you that the HIGHEST calorie source in America right now is SUGAR. One of the main ways this appears in our food and drinks is as High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS). Study after study has pointed to HFCS as being a major culprit in America’s obesity epidemic.

One study at Princeton University found that rats given HFCS gained significantly more weight (and gained it 300% more quickly) than those being fed only table sugar. This happened even though the rats overall calorie intake was THE SAME.

Not only did they gain weight, but rats who were given continued access to HFCS also had “…abnormal increases in body fat, especially in the abdomen and a rise in circulating blood fats called triglycerides.”

Other studies point to HFCS as causing increased risk for type-2 diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, liver damage and even mercury exposure.

Did YOU know HFCS can contain MERCURY? Gross! A large study was done in 2009 where researchers working with assistance from the FDA took HFCS samples from multiple food manufacturers and tested them for mercury. They found levels of mercury in OVER 50% OF THE SAMPLES TESTED.

Mercury poisoning can cause all sorts of scary problems including:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Indigestion
  • Anxiety
  • Chronic joint pain
  • Chronic muscle pain
  • Mental confusion
  • Mood swings
  • Poor memory
  • Fatigue
  • Bloating
  • Weak immune system function

Mercury is definitely something to pay attention to and we DO NOT want it popping up in our food supply without anyone even being aware of it!

But let’s get back to sugar and HFCS….

Your brain is wired in a way that sugar actually makes it light up just as it would if you took cocaine or heroin. It’s addictive. There are a lot of theories as to why this is the case, one being that our ancestors (who needed sugar for energy) had to work harder for their food and needed high motivation and high satisfaction in order to put in the work needed for survival. The thing is… they only had access to nature’s pure and real foods. The sugar we are eating is completely different and in MANY cases, not natural at all.

One Dutch health official went so far as to say that modern-day sugar is the most dangerous drug of all time. Even a former FDA commissioner, Dr. David Kessler named sugar as being a leading cause in what is now “…one of the greatest health epidemics of all time.”

It’s time to start ignoring the facts, folks. We need to get coke and other like products OUT of our lives!

I know, giving up soda is NOT easy. Here are a few tips to help you kick the habit once and for all:

#1 Find a reason to quit.

Whether it be your own health, your desire to lose weight, the health of your CHILDREN and your family (drinking soda has been shown to lower sperm count!), to stand up to a company that is taking advantage of us, or simply because you know you’ll feel better if you stop drinking it, FIND A REASON and make sure it’s a strong one!

#2 Set goals.

If you’re drinking soda multiple times a day, begin by cutting back to once a day. Once every other day. Once a week. Once a month. Although you may have some negative side effects at first, eventually you will begin to see that you feel better when you don’t drink it and it will get easier and easier not to reach for another can. Plus, when your body adapts (much like it did when you began drinking it – it’s all about creating habits) and your energy, mood and waistline improves (assuming you’re fueling your body with wholesome foods) – you won’t want to look back!

#3 Have good alternatives readily available.

Sparkling water with lemon/lime, green tea, organic black coffee (if you need the caffeine, but don’t over do it), smoothies, green juice (drink it daily to help curb cravings!!!), fruit-infused water, herbal teas, etc.

I know it’s not easy. But I PROMISE it is worth it. Your life is worth it. Your health is worth it. Become an advocate and example of real life transformation today and you can go on to inspire others to do the same.

Remember, we’re in this together.

During my FitLife transformation, I lost 70 pounds! That's why I signed up for the protocol, but the most exciting result is that I found ME in the process. I had been hiding under a pile of pounds, self-doubt, and grief! FitLife changed my life and I knew I had to share it with others.
