The Truth About Cardio

The truth about cardio is… you don’t need to do it to lose fat!

Recently, our man (founder of Fitlife.tv) Drew Canole was visiting my home base down here in Medellin, Colombia.

Naturally, about 30 seconds into our conversation, I began to prod him with questions about what he was doing to stay so lean. I mean, come on, the man has ab veins. I had to ask!

My first question was “how much cardio are you doing everyday?”

To my surprise, he said “right now, none” and went on to explain how the closest thing to cardio that he was doing was “lifting weights faster.”

Keep in mind he also went on to explain that, for general health reasons, he was going to start incorporating some cardio into his routine in the coming weeks.

But nonetheless, he was straight ripped and wasn’t doing any cardio.

What the heck is going on here?

Is it just me, or do you see just about every blog and fitness magazine out there trying to sell you on the next best cardio routine? Granted, cardio speeds up the fat loss process, but it is not necessary if you are purely going after a beautiful aesthetic body.

With that being said, if you just love a good cardio workout, here is one you can try out (no equipment needed).

So, if cardio is not mandatory for fat loss, what is?

Three main things affect fat loss the most:

1. The food you put in your body.

2. The movement or exercise you participate in.

3. The general self-care you participate in.

Food

When it comes to food, I recommend eating a whole food diet (preferably organic) that is balanced with all 3 macronutrients – carbohydrates, fats and protein. I also recommend eating a ton of greens to keep your body alkalized and firing on all cylinders. Here is a shortcut to getting all your greens in every day.

Movement

Just like Drew does, I highly recommend adding strength training to your exercise routine. Believe it or not, you get more bang for your buck when you do strength training versus cardio. You can learn exactly how this works here.

Self-Care

Finally, self-care is hugely important, because it directly affects your hormones. If your hormones are out of whack, you will find it very difficult to lose weight. I would recommend making sure you are getting enough sleep every night, doing an activity to destress (like meditation) and making sure your gut health is on point.

Let’s face it, there is a ton you can be doing to keep fat off and live the healthiest life possible. The popular belief is that the best way to do this is by killing yourself with excessive cardio every day. Cardio in moderation is in fact good for your general health, but hopefully after reading this article, you are a little more tuned into what is going to give you the greatest results for the time you choose to invest in these types of activities.

Now that you are so much wiser; here is my challenge to you. What action that I just mentioned could you commit more to over the coming week? Eating healthier? Incorporating strength training? More self-care?

What Our Clients Say*

During my FitLife transformation, I lost 70 pounds! That's why I signed up for the protocol, but the most exciting result is that I found ME in the process. I had been hiding under a pile of pounds, self-doubt, and grief! FitLife changed my life and I knew I had to share it with others.

-Lynne, Longwood FL

I started with Fitlife back in 2011-2012…I wrote into Fitlife asking for an extreme amount of help. I was 300 pounds, with high cholesterol, and Drew helped me transform my life. I lost over 130 pounds and I no longer have high cholesterol. Not only did I lose weight, so did my husband, who lost over 70 pounds!
