The Surprising Link Between Fruit Juice And Diabetes

An estimated 29.1 million people in the United States are suffering from diabetes. That’s almost 10% of the population!

A recent study in Britain found that eating whole fruits like blueberries, apples, grapes and pears may decrease your risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

The SAME fruits, however, can have the opposite effect when drinken in JUICE FORM.

Meaning… drinking pure fruit juice can up your risk for type 2 diabetes by as much as 8%.

Why is this? When eating an apple, one can easily measure servings. Just eat one whole apple! When juiced, however, you can consume the juice (and sugar) of multiple apples in just a few gulps. Not only that, but all the fiber that would normally slow down digestion of sugar is absent when in juice form.

It goes without saying that sugar is a major cause and aggravator of diabetes. A glass of juice may seem like a healthier option when compared to soda or other beverage choices, but the average glass of juice contains 30 grams of sugar! That is compared to only 28 grams of sugar in the average soda can.

I’m not saying you should choose soda over fruit juice (don’t do that!) – instead, do yourself a favor and say no to both!

What To Drink Instead?

There are so many options to choose from!

Vegetable Juice

Pure vegetable juice does wonders for the human body. It provides a flood of micronutrients that are easily digestible and reach the bloodstream quickly, without a sugar spike. Green juice can help you sleep better, improve your weight loss results, increase your energy and even improve your mood.

Lemon and Lime

Lemon and lime are powerful alkalizers. The human body is designed to reside in a slightly alkaline state – something that is hard to do when we are filling it with acidic-forming foods! When you fill your body with healing, alkalizing foods such as whole vegetables and fruits, lemons and limes, herbs, etc., you create an environment that is essentially impossible for disease to thrive in.

Add whole pieces of lemons and lime into your juices and smoothies, or infuse them into your water.

Your gut is home to over 100 trillion bacteria. That’s more than the amount of cells you have in your entire body! A balance of good bacteria is necessary for proper digestive system function. A poor balance of gut bacteria has been linked to chronic fatigue, arthritis, mood disorders, leaky gut syndrome, food allergies and more.

Kombucha is a great way to get a daily dose of healthy probiotics. You can buy various flavors at most grocery stores, or even make it yourself at home.

Herbal Tea

Herbs are some of the most medicinal plants on the planet. You can find an herb to help with almost any ailment. Load up on delicious and satisfying herbal teas. Remember – just don’t add sugar! If you need to sweeten it up, try a small amount of raw honey or pure stevia.

Fruit-Infused Water

This is a great way to get a fruity flavor in your cup without all the sugar of conventional fruit juice. Simple take whole slices of your favorite fruits, put them in a large jar full of filtered water and allow it to sit for a few hours or overnight. For even better flavor, add whole mint leaves.

A healthy lifestyle is within your reach! Commit to better food choices today.
