The Stories Of Our Minds – Mindset Monday

Today, my friend and fellow world-leader, Mike Sherbakov – the founder of The Greatness Foundation – has a great lesson to teach. We are so grateful to have him as a guest on Fitlife for some Mindset Monday’s! Let’s dig in!

Today’s lesson is all about LOVE and FEARLESSNESS. Basically, being like a kid!

“We grow fearless by walking into our fears.” – Robin Sharma

Do you remember when you were a kid? How an opportunity would come up and you would just GO FOR IT? If there was someone you were interested in, you would run right up to them and give them a hug. If you saw something that looked fun, you would rush to go do it without a second thought.

What happens when we turn into adults? We start to experience fear. We start to tell ourselves stories about what “could” happen if we reach forward to meet our dreams. We come up with all sorts of reasons why we can’t go talk to that person, or do that cool thing, or try something new. We tell ourselves over and over why we aren’t good enough, strong enough, fast enough, smart enough or thin enough.

Can You Walk The Plank?

“Fearlessness may be a gift, but perhaps more precious is the courage… that comes from cultivating the habit of refusing to let fear dictate one’s actions,” – Aung San suu Kyi

Here’s a little analogy to help get my point across:

Imagine I asked you to walk across a plank of wood. The plank of wood was as wide as a yoga mat; 20 feet long and just lying on the ground. If I asked you to walk across it, could you? Of course! Unless you have some weird phobia of wood planks, I bet you’d waltz right across it without a second thought.

What if I took that exact same plank and put it up 100 stories off the ground. Then what? Let me guess… FEAR! The context of the situation would make all your fear sensors go haywire and you would definitely take a second thought before deciding to walk across my plank of wood. You would start thinking of all the possible “what ifs” and “could happens.”

The exact same plank of wood that you could walk across with no problem before suddenly becomes something you can’t do because of the stories.

This is something to think about: have you created stories in your mind around what you can or cannot do?

Do you know the average of how many times a person will try something new before they give up? The answer may surprise you.

0.8 (true story)

What does that mean? That means the average person won’t even try something new before just giving up. In their mind they give up before they even attempt something. This happens because of FEAR. Their thoughts are filled with “what ifs” and “could happens” and the worry is too overwhelming to face.

My Challenge For You

“Genuine fearlessness arises with the confidence that we will be able to gather the inner resources to deal with any situation that comes our way.” – Matthieu Ricard

Whatever it is that you know you should try but are too afraid… can you bring that plank back down to the ground and recreate it in your mind and understand that this is something that you are very capable of?

I challenge you to bring whatever it is that you want to do back down to the ground, take the first step and make it happen.

Remember, we’re in this together.

What Our Clients Say*

During my FitLife transformation, I lost 70 pounds! That's why I signed up for the protocol, but the most exciting result is that I found ME in the process. I had been hiding under a pile of pounds, self-doubt, and grief! FitLife changed my life and I knew I had to share it with others.

-Lynne, Longwood FL

I started with Fitlife back in 2011-2012…I wrote into Fitlife asking for an extreme amount of help. I was 300 pounds, with high cholesterol, and Drew helped me transform my life. I lost over 130 pounds and I no longer have high cholesterol. Not only did I lose weight, so did my husband, who lost over 70 pounds!
