The Shocking Truth: What’s REALLY In Your Bottled Water? – Saturday Strategy
Americans drink over eight billion gallons of this stuff every year. It’s refreshing, convenient, calorie-free… and there’s usually a pretty little picture of a mountain stream on it to signify its origins.
But did your bottle of water really come from a far away mountain in the swiss alps?
Large water companies including Dasani, Nestle and Aquafina have all admitted drawing their water from LOCAL sources. Researchers found that 25% of bottled water is nothing more than TAP WATER.
They even found that labels claiming “pure glacier water” came from public water systems in Alaska. A reported 60-70% of bottled water that is made and sold in state is not safety regulated by the FDA.
So… WHAT’S IN YOUR WATER? If not pure, sweet mountain bliss?
THINK AGAIN. Turns out you are getting a LOT more than just water in the plastic bottles you buy!
Studies have found that bottled water can contain…
It’s time to rethink what you drink!
These contaminants could all be having disastrous effects on your health. And I wish I could say they were the only issue…
Most bottles for bottled water are stored in 1 PET or PET type plastic. Although this is considered a “safe” plastic… scientists have found that if left in hot or warm areas for long (say in the back on a transport semi… or in the back of your car in the summer), that materials from the plastic actually LEACH into the water!
That means, when you drink a bottled water that has sat out in warm temperatures, you are also drinking PLASTIC.
Plastic has long been known as an endocrine disrupter, taking blame for everything from hormone disruption to infertility to cancer.
Needless to say, it has enough red flags that you certainly do NOT want to be drinking it.
“Okay Drew, so now even the water I drink is bad… what in the world am I supposed to do about it?”
Here’s a few good solutions:
Alkaline water is water rich in alkalizing compounds like calcium, silica, potassium, magnesium and bicarbonate. It is less acidic than tap water, usually with a pH above 7.
Alkaline Water Recipe
- 1 pitcher (64 ounces) of clean filtered water
- 1 organic lemon, washed, cut into eighths
- 1 tsp Himalayan pink salt
Directions: Fill pitcher, add in lemon wedges (do not squeeze!). Then add 1 tsp. Himalayan Pink Salt, cover, and let sit overnight (8-12 hrs.) at room temperature.
Reverse Osmosis Water
Take a serious look into one of the best systems out there… reverse osmosis water.
Reversis osmosis is a filtration system that removes impurities from water including nitrates, pesticides, sulfates, fluoride, bacteria, pharmaceuticals, arsenic and more.
The catch with RO water is that you will want to remineralize with something like ConcenTrace – Trace Mineral Drops. Completely tasteless and so incredible!
Reputable Bottled Water Companies
If at all possible, try to buy water that comes in safe plastics, paper containers (they’re a thing now!) or in glass.

If you do need to buy plastic bottled water, the following three companies were the only ones to receive good ratings from the EWG for transparency in where their water came from, how it was purified and if any contaminants were found:
- Nestle’s Pure Life Purified Water
- Gerber Pure Purified Water
- Penta Ultra-Purified Water
Is My Tap Water Safe?
In 2009 the Environmental Working Group put out a list of the cities with the cleanest water, from best to worst. You can find it here.
Just a heads up according to this report San Diego is 92nd on the list.
Awareness is the key to change.
