The Ultimate Japanese Water Drinking Technique
1. Before even brushing your teeth – drink 4 x 160ml (or 2.66 cups) of water on an empty stomach immediately after waking up each morning (if you are elderly or cannot drink that much right away, start out with a lower amount and work your way up over time).
2. Next, brush and clean the mouth but do not eat or drink anything for 45 minutes.
3. After 45 minutes, you may eat and drink just like you normally would.
4. As soon as 15 minutes has passed after breakfast, lunch, or dinner, do not eat or drink for 2 hours.
In China and Japan, they avoid drinking cold water with their meals. In fact, the drink of choice is typically hot tea. Studies have found that if you prefer drinking cold water, then it is recommended to avoid it during meal time.
If you drink cold water during a meal, the water will solidify any oils in your food, creating a sludgy mess in your intestines. This oil will start lining the intestines, making it harder to digest food. Over time, the excess fats can store toxins and even lead to cancer.
It is strongly recommended that right after finishing a meal, you drink hot water, tea, or warm soup to help break up the fats and move everything along.
