Water & Health: Two Ways to Drink More Water

Transitioning from soda to water can be tough. You have to re-adjust your taste buds and find new ways to enjoy water. Many of my clients often have a hard time putting aside caffeinated energy drinks, soda and coffee.

Harmful Effects of Soda

But I have found a way that makes their journey easier. I like to have my clients go on the Alpha Reset to re-adjust their taste buds. While on the Alpha Reset, I recommend drinking at least 8 glasses of water per day or until you feel hydrated.

Every system in your body depends on water to function and when you are dehydrated you definitely feel it.

  • Water is essential to your body’s temperature regulation, keeping it cool through perspiration.
  • Water flushes out toxins and wastes.
  • Water is a major component of blood which carries nutrients and oxygen to and from all cells.
  • Water provides a moist environment for all body tissues. It is the major component of saliva and mucous which lubricates the membranes that line our digestive system beginning with the mouth. Mucous membranes in the nose and eyes function better when well hydrated.
  • Water cushions joints and protects tissues and organs like the brain from shock and damage.
  • Water helps maintain a healthy weight. It is hard to distinguish between hunger and thirst. If you feel hungry, drink some water first and then reassess your hunger status.

Symptoms of dehydration:

  • Increased thirst
  • Dry mouth and swollen tongue
  • Weakness
  • Dizziness
  • Palpitations (feeling that the heart is jumping or pounding)
  • Confusion
  • Sluggishness fainting
  • Fainting
  • Inability to sweat
  • Decreased urine output

Besides the benefits of staying hydration, water can also aid in weight loss.

According to the American Chemical Society, drinking two 8 ounce glasses of water before breakfast, lunch, and dinner while also cutting back on portions may help you shed unwanted pounds (CNN).

A research study included 48 overweight or obese men and women between the ages of 55 and 75 who were on a low-calorie diet (1,200 calories per day for women and 1,500 calories per day for men). Half of the people were instructed to drink 16 ounces of water — the amount in a small bottle of spring water — before meals (CNN).

After three months, the participants who drank water had lost an average of about 15.5 pounds, compared with just 11 pounds in the control group, according to the study, the first results of which were published earlier this year in the journal Obesity (CNN).

And the weight loss appears to be lasting, new data suggest. After a full year of the same regimen, the water drinkers had slimmed down by an additional 1.5 pounds, on average, while those who didn’t load up on water before meals gained about 2 pounds, Brenda Davy, Ph.D., says (CNN).

The main reason that people were losing weight appears to be that it helps fill your stomach, making you less hungry and less likely to overeat. It’s recommended that you drink 2 glasses of water 20 minutes before having a meal.

Here are two easy ways to make drinking water more satisfying than drinking soda!

1. Add some flavor to your water.

This is the easiest trick and the best part is that it’s great for you!

Adding cucumber slices to your water will add some vitamin C to your diet as well. Vitamin C plays an important role in increasing your immunity and helping to prevent infection. Ginger has many benefits including helps with colds, decreases symptoms of nausea and vomiting, aides in weight loss, digestion and reduces bloating. Add ginger and cucumber to your water and see the benefits.

You can also add fruit to your water. Fruits such as raspberries, blueberries, strawberries are packed with antioxidants. Antioxidants (like vitamin C) boost your immunity, strawberries offer a wide range of health benefits, some of which may surprise you like wrinkle prevention.

You can also fill ice cube trays with water and herbs like basil, mint, rosemary and freeze it. Then add it to a glass of water. It’s easy and refreshing.  You can also do this with chucks of fruit.

2. Alkalize your water.

Alkalizing your water is said to help prevent diseases and slow the aging process. This also stops free radicals from forming, flushes toxins from cells and prevents toxins from accumulating, provides essential minerals, promotes normal blood flow and maintains normal blood pH. Alkalized water also is said to be better at hydrating the body because it penetrates cells more effectively.

If you really don’t like drinking water but you want to get healthy and lose weight try juicing.

Why Juice?

The quality of your life starts with the quality of the foods that sustain it. The best path to a healthier, more energetic and disease-free lifestyle begins with a diet rich in organic foods. Especially important on this path to health are fresh vegetables and fruits.

The advantages of juicing include increased energy, strengthened immunity, reduced risk of disease, strengthening of bones, and great health. Juicing provides nutritional advantages of plant foods in a concentrated form that is easily absorbed by the body, and is the most fun and efficient way to increase your consumption of amazing fruits and vegetables. Check out my free presentation here. <—

The first thing that my clients do is go on the Alpha Reset. It’s a great way to lose weight, get healthy, and get rid of the toxins that are building up inside your body.
