“Opportunity is everywhere.” – Drew Canole
Today, I’m going to show you the most valuable superpower on the planet. And that is the superpower of being an eternal optimist.
Simply adjusting our mind and being more positive in everything that we do in our life, changes who we are.
If you’ve read the book, Psycho Cybernetics it shows that your self image and the way you view you has a direct impact on the way your life unfolds. Your perception, even in the moment, can drastically alter any given circumstance. (if you haven’t read this, definitely grab a copy here!)
So, how do you become an eternal optimist?
Here’s how to set yourself up for success:
“Realize deeply that the present moment is all you have.” – Eckhart Tolle
Meditate for 3-5 minutes every single day. It doesn’t have to be the kind of meditation where you sit on the floor, close your eyes and say “om”. You don’t have to sit for two hours trying to get through some ethereal door. You can do it with your eyes open, on a skateboard, while you’re playing a musical instrument or even during a great conversation with another authentic person.
Meditation can be just sitting quietly for a few minutes and breathing – it’s whatever you choose. The idea is to be present without a plethora of thoughts going through your mind. It’s about BEING without distraction, whatever that means for you.
“Give yourself permission to take time to breathe, to live life, to give, to love, to reflect, to be present. And just be.” – Unknown
I have an app I downloaded where you look at the screen and you breathe in and out and it shows you exactly when to hold it. Kind of like this. Pretty cool. Check it out and let me know what you think!
#3 Do Something You Love
“Find something you love to do and you’ll never have to work a day in your life.” – Harvey Mackay
Do something you love every single day. It can be anything! Maybe it’s writing, maybe it’s playing a musical instrument, maybe it’s sending a card of appreciation to someone who influenced you. Choose something and commit to doing it daily. It’s incredible how this begins to create other positive habits in your life as well.
#4 Get Enough Sleep
“Your future depends on your dreams. So go to sleep.” – Mesut Barazany
I can’t stress enough how important sleep is. I sleep for 8 hours every night and I really notice if my schedule starts to cut off an hour or two of that resting time. It becomes harder for me to be optimistic, it becomes more of a job I have to work at rather than just naturally flowing from my being.
Have trouble sleeping at night? Try this tea. It’s a lot easier to be optimistic when we are giving our body what it needs to thrive.
#5 Use The Mantra: Opportunity Is Everywhere
“Out of clutter, find simplicity. From discord, find harmony. In the middle of difficulties, find opportunity.” – Albert Einstein
When I say this to myself every morning, I start to see the world SHIFT.
Then, as I’m going about my day, if something “bad” happens like I get a parking ticket or someone bumps into me on the street, I can silence the negativity that tries to rise inside me by saying, “Opportunity is everywhere.” And it’s so true!
Start to use this mantra every day. Even if you don’t feel like it is true! Maybe you’re at a dead end job or you have chronic fatigue or you just really feel like you’re life is in a black tunnel – start to say this to yourself. Watch your world begin to change.
I want to challenge you this week to become more optimistic. If you weren’t born with a naturally optimistic attitude, that’s okay. Most people aren’t! But you are the artist of your own mind and your own life, and I challenge you to make the choice to fill yourself with the spirit of optimism.
Even just making one little shift every day can make a huge difference.
Remember, we’re in this together.
