As I’m sure you’re aware, disease has been escalating and getting worse over the past several years.

I’m guessing you or someone you love dearly is suffering from a chronic illness.  

The more and more research we do at Fitlife, the more we realize that most illness and disease comes from ONE thing in particular…

Chronic inflammation.

Inflammation, or more accurately, too MUCH inflammation can be a scary thing.

This is why I’ve chosen to take time on a Mindset Monday to talk to you about inflammation. Not just in your body, but also in your mind.

Your MIND can’t truly be free if you are dealing with chronic pain.

Why We Are Inflamed

You have an incredible and complex immune system whose main purpose is to protect you from harmful substances.

Inflammation is your body’s natural response to a foreign invader. This could be cells, viruses, fungi, bacteria, chemicals, toxins, etc.

When tissues in your body are injured, the cells release chemicals that cause swelling and attract white blood cells to help remedy the situation and prevent it from spreading to other areas of the body.  

In this case, inflammation is a good and natural thing.

The problem is…

We’re overtaxed.

Although your body can process a surprising number of toxins, it is most likely overwhelmed by the overabundance that is present in our modern society. Your grandmother didn’t have to deal with half of the chemicals that you are facing on a daily basis.

There are even more chemicals in our environment than ever before – from our food, to our beauty products, even the air we breathe… and that also includes the thoughts we think.

Your body’s immune system is exhausted and overworked. Plain and simple.

The standard american diet (SAD) is chock-full of inflammatory foods. Gluten, wheat, refined sugar and processed foods naturally trigger the body’s inflammatory response in the gut. You can imagine the damage that can happen when you are trying to ingest these foods on a daily basis (hello, autoimmune disease).

We’re also stressed.

Stress (especially chronic stress) also causes inflammation in the body. We live in a very go-go-go ambitious world. A lot of us are living more IN stress than out of it.

Many of us may also be struggling with inflammatory thoughts.

We think over and over again about our worries and have anxiety about the future. Even though we are trying to be positive, more often than not our thoughts will sneak into negativity and doubt.

What Happens When We Ignore Signs Of Inflammation

It is easy to ignore problems when they are small. But in reality, this is the most important time to address them.

I’ve ignored my back pain before until it was so bad that I almost went to the ER. If I would have taken care of it immediately (listened and honored my body), it wouldn’t have escalated to a point that was debilitating.

It’s the same with our THOUGHTS. If you recognize that you have unhealthy thought patterns, NOW is the time to start changing them.

IF you can learn to recognize and ADDRESS those small signs that your body sends you each day, trying to let you know that something is wrong, you will be a lot happier, you’ll live a lot longer and you’ll have the energy and health you need to live up to your full potential.   

How Recognizing Inflammation Could Change Your Life

What if 5 years ago you’d known how to change your diet and lifestyle in a way that PREVENTED the chronic condition you’re dealing with now?

Tips To Overcome Inflammation

Sleep If you ask the average person if they got 8 hours of sleep the previous night, a surprising amount of them would say no. It is extremely important to your health and stress levels to get 7-9 hours of sleep every single night.

Lack of sleep has been linked to cognitive decline and memory problems. It’s hard to be positive when your mind is exhausted.

Meditation Not only does meditation help you stay present, but studies have also shown that it can help with symptoms of ADHD, anxiety, depression and other mental disorders just as well as or better than medication. Drugs are often a major cause of inflammation. I’m not saying you should stop taking any of your medications but, with the help of a certified physician, if you can use meditation and lifestyle techniques instead or with, it may go a long way in helping you feel better.

Qigong This ancient method combines focused breathing and movement in order to bring the body and mind into a peaceful state.

Hydration I drink 4-6 liters of water every single day, depending on my activity levels. A lot of people are chronically dehydrated and don’t realize it. These people compensate for their thirst by eating more food. Water is vital to every function in your body and is important to soothing inflammation in the body.  

Turmeric There are over 1000 different case studies showing turmeric as one of the most powerful natural anti-inflammatories on the planet. I take turmeric daily. And I can’t wait to share a very special surprise I have coming for you… stay tuned for those details in the coming weeks!

Ashwagandha This is a powerful adaptogenic herb that helps bring the body back to balance after stress.

Breathe Learn to stop and breath. Practice deep breathing regularly. Through proper breathing you can slow your heart rate, lower cortisol (stress), slow your racing thoughts and reduce inflammation.


Focus on doing just ONE of these things for seven days in a row. Write down any changes you notice. Next week, pick up another one.

You only have to take one step at a time.

There are so many factors that play a role in pain, but your MIND is powerful! And trust me when I say it CAN help eliminate chronic inflammation and alleviate or at the very least, decrease your painful symptoms.

Let’s kick inflammation to the curb and get you feeling 100% again!
