The Big Benefits Of The Little Noni Fruit
Written by: Drew Canole
Everyone loves the amazing flavors and versatility of tropical fruits! However, if you’re not living on an island, then the only island fruits you eat regularly are probably mangos and pineapples. Nothing against these amazing fruits, but there are a ton of other superfoods you can find from luscious islands around the globe!
Get ready to expand your repertoire and impress your taste buds!
Noni is one of the superstars I am referring to!
Fiber, potassium, protein, vitamin C, A, iron, niacin
The noni tree is a tropical evergreen that grows on Pacific islands. Noni fruit looks kind of like an undeveloped pinecone and has been popular among Polynesian cultures for hundreds of years. Soldiers during World War 2 ate this fruit for sustenance when stationed on Pacific islands.
What the noni fruit lacks in attractiveness, it makes up for in health benefits. Noni may help to lower cholesterol, aid digestion, increase energy and help with weight loss.
Noni can also be applied topically to the skin and is useful for skin care and scalp conditions.
Antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, analgesic antibacterial properties: At a University in Japan, researchers used mice to test the effects of the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of noni juice on brain function. After seven days of giving half of the mice noni juice, researchers stopped blood flow to the mice’s cerebral arteries for two hours. Those who had been given the noni juice showed less neurological deficits than those who had not.
Traditionally, noni has been used as a pain reliever. Animals studies have shown promising results in this area as well. Noni may provide relief from painful inflammatory conditions such as arthritis.
Some studies have been done to prove the effectiveness of noni juice against common disease-causing bacteria like E-Coli, Staphylococcus and Proteus Vulgaris. Indian researchers found that extracts of noni fruit proved to have moderate antibacterial activity.
7 Ways To Eat Noni
Not everyone can handle raw noni fruit because of its strong smell and somewhat bitter taste. To enjoy the benefits of raw noni, you can peel and throw it into a smoothie or juice it with citrus fruits.
