Today, I am going to tell you about ‘superfoods’ that you probably don’t know are SUPERFOODS and how they can become part of your liver cleansing day.

Your liver is the primary filter of your body’s intricate detoxification system, so keeping it working at its best will keep you the healthiest you can be.

First, Let’s Talk Basics

The top of my list of recommendations for your liver and every other part of your body is to live and eat clean with whole foods, especially nutritionally packed plant-based foods. Next is deep cleaning, such as juice fasts or an elimination diet.

Once your diet is in order, however, you will still need to periodically tune-up. Because of this, I also suggest loading your day with liver cleansing superfoods and habits as often as you can.

Step through your day using these ideas to make liver cleansing an easy routine that leads to a long, healthy life.

Liver Cleansing Throughout The Day

1. Wake Up Your Body The Right Way

Superfood Cleansers: Lemon, Turmeric, Ginger

Start your day with warm water, the juice of a fresh lemon and some healing and cleansing spices like ginger or turmeric. You have heard this before and it’s easy to do!

Here’s Why:

  • Lemon is rich in natural vitamin C and antioxidants, which protect the liver and help to cleanse it.
  • When you add turmeric, your liver gets extra protection and could even get help repairing damaged areas. Turmeric also increases bile production and assists in gallbladder function (try these additional drinks to enjoy with turmeric).
  • Ginger helps the whole body, particularly your liver and reduces inflammation. Altogether, a purifying combination.

2. Clean Up With A Great Breakfast
Superfood Cleansers: Avocado, Leafy Greens, Beets

Morning is a good time to get a serving of avocado in and some vegetables. Try one of these quick to make avocado recipes to start your day. Pair it with a green juice or beet juice to supercharge your nutrition.

Here’s Why:

  • Avocado contains glutathione, which naturally cleanses the liver. Some research has shown that avocados, if eaten consistently for a month, can even help repair a damaged liver.
  • Leafy greens are nutritionally dense and high in chlorophyll, which helps to clear out toxins such as pesticides and herbicides, bring oxygen into the body and in some cases to eliminate accumulated heavy metals that put extra burden on the liver.
  • Beets help the overall function of the liver, because they are high in plant-flavonoids and they help blood vessels relax and keep things flowing smoothly.

3. Drink Throughout The Day
Superfood Cleansers: Water, Green Tea, Dandelion Root Tea

While you are drinking, why not cleanse? These are some of the best beverages to help the liver. But remember that any ingredient mentioned in this article can also be combined into smoothies, juices, teas, etc. (for example, here are 2 drinks that use turmeric).

Here’s Why:

  • Water is necessary for life and to flush wastes out of the body, so perhaps it is the ultimate superfood? That is why it is here. Drink the right amount of water for your body size and activity level.
  • Green tea is full of catechins, strong antioxidants that eliminate fat accumulation in the liver and support the liver functions.

4. Snack Guilt-Free
Superfood Cleansers: Grapefruit, Apple, Walnuts, Brazil Nuts, Almonds

Snacking is not a bad word. Snacks can be healthy and are just what you need when your body is low on energy. Choose one or more of these liver-friendly snacks to recharge and shower kindness on your liver. Of course, the breakfast ideas work for snacks too!

Here’s Why:

  • Grapefruit is high in vitamin C and the antioxidants that stimulate and protect. Plus, the flavonoid compound naringenin helps the liver burn fat!
  • Nuts (raw, unsalted) contain a lot of vitamins, minerals and fiber that help the liver. Walnuts are high in omega-3 fatty acids, glutathione and l-arginine, which help the liver clean itself. Brazil nuts have concentrated levels of selenium, which is an antioxidant that protects and strengthens liver immunity (great for thyroid health too!). Almonds contains magnesium, which helps manage the elasticity of blood vessels throughout the liver.

5. Eat A Substantial Dinner
Superfood Cleansers: Leafy Green, Cruciferous Vegetables, Garlic

Dinner is the perfect time to gets tons of liver-loving foods into you. Leafy greens cooked or raw should be part of every dinner. A leafy salad is a great way to start (learn how to build great salads here).

A lot of people eat salad because of the low caloric content, but it is the nutrition that makes them so special.

Similarly, cruciferous vegetables are so important that at least one should be included each day. And feel free to make it garlicky for added benefit.

Here’s Why:

  • Leafy greens (see Breakfast).
  • Cruciferous vegetables, such as brussel sprouts, broccoli and cabbage, contain sulfur compounds (glucosinolates) that protect the liver and improve it’s ability to purge excess hormones and toxins.
  • Garlic contains sulfur compounds, like cruciferous vegetables, but it also contains allicin and selenium that help to protect the liver and aid in detoxification.

There are so many times throughout the day that the choice can be made for liver-cleansing foods and drinks rather than liver-harming ones. Give some of these tips a try and let us know how it goes in the comments below!

What Our Clients Say*

During my FitLife transformation, I lost 70 pounds! That's why I signed up for the protocol, but the most exciting result is that I found ME in the process. I had been hiding under a pile of pounds, self-doubt, and grief! FitLife changed my life and I knew I had to share it with others.

-Lynne, Longwood FL

I started with Fitlife back in 2011-2012…I wrote into Fitlife asking for an extreme amount of help. I was 300 pounds, with high cholesterol, and Drew helped me transform my life. I lost over 130 pounds and I no longer have high cholesterol. Not only did I lose weight, so did my husband, who lost over 70 pounds!
