Study Concludes Coffee Is Healthy – Plus 3 Recipes For Your Morning Brew

What’s that you say? Coffee is healthy?! Don’t mind if I take a double shot of espresso please!

I don’t know about you, but being Italian, I love coffee. There is nothing more refreshing than a nice espresso after a good meal, so when I heard about this study, I did a little happy dance!

Roughly 60% of Americans over the age of 18 drink coffee every day.

In the past, coffee was viewed as a way to wake up and fight the sluggishness; however, studies are now starting to prove coffee has added health benefits.

Researchers from the School of Public Health at Harvard University recognized that drinking 3 to 5 cups of coffee per day, decaf or regular, are less likely to die from life-threatening diseases such as heart disease and diabetes.

Frank Hu, professor of epidemiology and nutrition, wrote that coffee can reduce systemic inflammation and insulin, thanks to the magnesium, chlorogenic acid, lignans, trigonelline and quinides found in coffee.

Believe it or not, coffee is the #1 source of antioxidants in the American diet. Antioxidants help fight the damage done to your DNA.

U.S. government advisers suggest that new dietary proposals should indicate coffee’s benefits: protection against liver cancer and even diabetes.

Hu also mentioned, however, that you need to watch out for the amount of added sugar, which can become a major problem to your health. You should try and stay away from the drive-thru blends. Conventional coffee is among the top pesticide sprayed crops. In some farms, 250 pounds of chemical fertilizer are sprayed per acre.  

Pesticide exposure can lead to headaches, intestinal disorders, fatigue and skin irritations.

  1. Fill a glass with ice. Pour coffee, almond milk, stir in coconut caramel.

 
Ingredients
  • 1 cup of coffee
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil or XCT oil
  • 1 tbsp organic grass fed butter
  • ¼ tsp vanilla
Instructions
  1. Add all ingredients to blender and blend until there is a thick layer of foam on top.

 
Recipe 3: Coconut Latte
 
Ingredients
  • 3 cups coffee
  • ½ cup full-fat coconut milk
  • Dash of cinnamon
Instructions
  1. Add coffee and coconut milk to blender. Blend on medium-high for 60 seconds. Pour into a glass with ice.
