Strawberry Recipes To Try This Summer

June is strawberry season in the midwest and all of the mom’s are out with their kiddos picking u-pick strawberries as a fun summertime activity. Of course, eating locally grown food of any kind has its nutritional benefits, saves some money and is something fun for the whole family to enjoy together.
Be sure to wash these beauties well before consuming and try to pick or buy from an organic farmer to avoid pesticides, chemicals and GMO’s. Not sure who your farmer is? Don’t be afraid to ask the grocer or your local farmer where you’re picking what their process is. The best farmers are happy to share this info and it’s a good education into our food system.
But what do you do with all those strawberries you pick? Look no further – I’ve done the research for you!
Here are 12 recipe ideas for summertime strawberries that you and your family can indulge in!
1. Eat Them Fresh – Slice and dice them up and put them in a bowl that is easily accessible and make it your go-to snack! Tip – Keep them at eye level so you don’t forget about them in the back of the fridge.
2. Smoothies – Strawberry banana, strawberry peanut butter, whatever your favorite recipe is, you can always add berries to make it yummy! Tip – Freeze them on a cookie sheet and then bag them to use for smoothies for months to come!
3. Homemade Strawberry Lemonade – A go-to favorite of mine. All you need is your blender with some ice, water, strawberries, fresh lemons or lemon juice and your favorite natural sweetener (I prefer raw honey). You can also mix it up a bit and make Strawberry-Mint Sparkling Limeade. Tip – Play with the recipe and adjust to your preference. Tastes better after it’s been in the fridge for awhile.
4. Desserts – A Strawberry Rhubarb Pie is perfect for those leisurely summer days you have to spend with your friends and family. You can also give some of these a try: Muffin-Tin Strawberry Shortcakes, Strawberry-Rhubarb Bread Pudding, Strawberry-Raspberry Sundaes, Strawberry-Rhubarb Upside-Down Cake, Strawberry Shortcake, Vanilla Strawberries with Lemon Ricotta.
5. Dinners – Add strawberries to your main course of the day to give it a sweeter, fresher edge. Grilled Duck with Strawberry-Fig Sauce, Strawberry, Pistachio, and Goat Cheese Pizza and Grilled Peanut Butter and Banana Split Sandwiches are some great dishes to try your fresh strawberries with.
6. Jam – Try your luck with this Strawberry Cordial Jam recipe the next time you’re needing to make a sandwich or throw together a tasty dinner roll spread.
7. Salads – There are so many options for what to mix into your salad. Have you ever tried either of these – Green Salad with Strawberries & Goat Cheese or Chicken and Strawberry Salad?
8. Breakfast – If you are one who is into more fruity dishes for breakfasts, you will love these – Fruit-Filled Crepes, Strawberry-Orange Muffins and Parfaits (ingredients for parfait: Greek yogurt, raw honey, vanilla extract, papaya, pineapple, strawberries and gluten-free granola).
9. Sherbet – Who doesn’t like the occasional enjoyment of a good bowl of sherbet? Give Strawberry Sherbet a try the next time you’re looking to get your sherbet fix.
10. Appetizers – Strawberries alone can make a great appetizer, but if you’re ever wanting to spice things up a bit, Strawberry & Brie Bites and Strawberry-Avocado Salsa are some delicious options to try out.

12. Drinks – Strawberry flavored drinks are a common favorite amongst most people. Try making some drinks of your own! And there you have it! Like I mentioned above, before you start with any of these recipes, be sure you clean your strawberries properly. You can use water and lemon juice or you can even look into the organic cleaner called Eat Cleaner that I use (you can find it right here on Amazon).
And remember – anything you add sugar to should be eaten in moderation if you are trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Yes, sugar does make strawberries taste amazingly sweet, but just be careful that you don’t overdo it.
