3 Steps to Whiter Teeth and Healthier Gums
By Lindsay Christianson
Who doesn’t want a gleaming white smile? Unfortunately, a lot of the products on the market aren’t exactly “natural” and may pose more of a problem than they’re worth. Not to mention the time, money and worst of all – sore teeth (and chemicals). If you have tried the over-the-counter bleaching products that make your mouth hurt like crazy, then you know exactly what I mean! I never could follow through with those.
Enter, activated charcoal. It may sound familiar, as it is a common remedy for cases of poisoning, including food poisoning because of its ability to absorb toxins and chemicals, without being absorbed by the body. The process allows the activated charcoal to flush the junk out of your body completely, without further side effects.
Awesomely enough, its ability to absorb toxins and chemicals also makes it highly effective as a topical tooth whitener! Bonus!
How To Use Activated Charcoal For Your Pearly Whites
- Simply apply loose activated charcoal (or dump a capsule) on a wet toothbrush. Enough to cover the bristles.
- Brush your teeth in small circles for 2 minutes.
- Spit and rinse thoroughly.
Your mouth will feel amazingly clean and your teeth will thank you! Use as often as you like! Warning: charcoal does stain and is very difficult to wash out of things like grout, clothing, towels, etc. so use with caution.
Side bonus, it also helps rebalance the PH of your mouth and kill the bad bacteria responsible for tooth decay and gingivitis.
You can source activated charcoal in capsules or purchase in loose form from almost any natural health store or online. Powder is easiest for tooth-brushing, but capsules can be opened up and used easily as well. Be sure your charcoal is from coconut or wood sources (you don’t want the petroleum-based junk!).
