We’ve got masks for absolutely everything in our lives. And the more we wear them, the more inauthentic we are. So today on this Mindset Monday we are going to tear off the masks and break free once and for all!
Are you ready?
Stepping Into Your Authentic Self
I am an advocate for self development. But self development is a continuous journey, not a destination. So I still have days where I struggle! Yep, it’s true.
There was a particular time in my life where I was little more than a giant people pleaser. You know what I’m talking about… maybe you’ve been one too! Always saying yes, avoiding confrontation, saying or doing what people wanted me to say or do instead of standing in my power and living from a space of intention.
Why did I do this? The root cause of my inner people-pleaser was actually a feeling deep down that I was not worthy.
Why is it so hard to be ourselves sometimes? To speak up? To live from our heart space instead of out of fear or because we don’t want to ruffle feathers?
We crave acceptance.
You and I were born into this world to be loved. We naturally crave acceptance from the people around us. When we let this desire consume us, however, we lose who we truly are. We become inauthentic, acting out of a desire to please rather than out of intention and from our core.
When we are living in an inauthentic space, we stay very busy trying to manage everyone else’s expectations. Especially about the way they see us. We wear different masks constantly depending on who we are with. In our mind, it is easier to wear the mask than to be our true self.
Isn’t it exhausting??
When you can learn to truly BE YOURSELF… you will look in the mirror and smile at the person staring back. I’m serious! You won’t look and instantly begin your usual brigade of negative thoughts and criticisms at yourself. You will look at yourself with deep love and admiration, because you will be staring into the heart of your authentic being. Your authentic self IS love, IS joy, IS happiness, IS peace, IS radiance.
How Do I Get There?
I’m going to share an exercise with you that I’ve done in my life many times. It’s going to help you shift from a place of people-pleasing inauthenticity and into your authentic self.
Grab a piece of paper and a pen.
Draw a vertical line down the center of the paper.
Think about a person in your life that you really love and respect.
On one side of the line, write down 3-5 qualities/attributes about this person that really stand out to you in a positive way.
Think about someone that you loathe. I’m talking absolutely despise.
On the other side of the line, write down 3-5 qualities/attributes about this person that makes you not like them.
Now, take a good look at the qualities you’ve written down. On the side where you listed qualities you loved about someone, realize that deep down, those are the things you love most about yourself. Those qualities on the other side are the qualities about yourself that you hate about yourself.
Examine The People Closest To You
We are the average of the five people we spend the most time with. So take a close look at who you are surrounding yourself with on a daily basis. What kind of vibration are they putting off? Are they authentic beings? Do they support you in living an authentic, empowered life? Or are they sucking the life right out of you?
If you want to step in your authentic self and stay there, then it is vital to surround yourself with people who are doing the same thing. People who love and support you for who you are and who want to hold you high, not just make you like them.
Maybe there are people who you get to let go of. Or at least spend less time with. You get to create space in your world for the types of people that will raise you to a new level and support you in stepping into an authentic space.
If you really do this, miracles are going to walk into your life.
Sit In Silence
I also want you to take time to sit in silence. Get comfortable being with yourself. So much of the time when we are alone we are trying to distract ourselves from our own thoughts. We have our phones, our social media, Netflix, books, magazines… anything to save us from just sitting in silence.
When you are taking time to be with yourself, I want you to think about what moves you. What stirs your soul? What motivates you? What sparks a light inside your core? That’s what you get to do every day.
Look In The Mirror
Look in the mirror and realize that the face you’re staring at is the ONLY one who’s opinion matters.
Everybody else has an opinion about who you should be or what you should be doing every day. And many people live out the opinions of other people! That’s what they do every day of their life and eventually they don’t even know what they themselves want anymore.
But that’s not you. You’ve attracted this message into your life for a reason. We get to start playing bigger, my friend. Because that’s what life’s all about.
Remember, we’re in this together.

During my FitLife transformation, I lost 70 pounds! That's why I signed up for the protocol, but the most exciting result is that I found ME in the process. I had been hiding under a pile of pounds, self-doubt, and grief! FitLife changed my life and I knew I had to share it with others.

I started with Fitlife back in 2011-2012…I wrote into Fitlife asking for an extreme amount of help. I was 300 pounds, with high cholesterol, and Drew helped me transform my life. I lost over 130 pounds and I no longer have high cholesterol. Not only did I lose weight, so did my husband, who lost over 70 pounds!
