“The victory of success is half won when one gains

the habit of setting and achieving goals.”

– Og Mandino

Last week we talked about the importance of goal setting and how to overcome resistance.

My videographer, David, asked me a great question after watching the video. Because I think you might have the same question, I decided to focus today’s video on his concerns.

David said that sometimes when he’s focusing on a future goal, he finds himself feeling discontent. Because he is thinking so much about what or who he will be in the future, he has a hard time accepting where he is at in the present.

Maybe you can relate to this. I know so many people do. I was once there myself.

But you have the power to change this and I want to help you do just that.

First of all, let’s talk about WHY we set big goals. Big goals help us to have a vision of the future so that we have the strength and motivation to take on a challenging journey. If we don’t set big goals, it’s hard to muster the strength to pull us through our highs and lows.

Big goals are important. But they are not the ONLY thing that matters when you are setting off on a transformation journey – whether it be on your body or your mind… or anything else you’re facing in the moment.

Something else that is of equal importance to your big goals are something I like to call micro-commitments.

A micro-commitment is when you focus on ONE thing in the present moment that is going to help pull you closer to your big goal in the future,

For example… we have a lot of our coaching clients focus on something simple in the beginning of their transformation, like drinking warm lemon water every morning.

It may seem like a small thing, but eventually drinking warm lemon water will turn into also drinking Organifi green juice. Drinking green juice will help lead to other healthy habits, which eventually will lead to them getting rid of all the junk food in their house. It may take time, but the point is that they are moving in a positive direction.

Micro-commitments don’t have to big lofty to make a difference. Taking one small step at a time in order to keep your focus in the present moment while also moving forward towards a big goal is imperative to your growth.

“Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out.” – R Collier

So, if you are finding yourself feeling discontent with yourself and your goals, it may be time to take a closer look at your micro-commitments.

Make sure you are setting small goals that will help you feel accomplished in the moment.

It’s kind of link a bank account. You put in a little at a time and end up with something much bigger in a few years. When you’re working towards a big goal, it feels good to put in $15 or $50 each paycheck. It keeps you focused and it keeps you moving forward, which is the ultimate reward. Progress.

You can also compare it to a snowball rolling down a mountain. One snowflake smashes up against another and eventually, a ball large enough to knock through any obstacle has been created.

One deposit, one snowflake, one step at a time. Soon you won’t believe how far you’ve come.

Here are a few tips to setting micro-commitments:

  • Choose micro-commitments that are specific and achievable on a day-to-day basis.
  • Write them down and put them somewhere that you will see them regularly.
  • Share your goals with a partner. Or, even better, find someone that has the same goal so you can support and cheer each other on.
  • Find small ways to reward yourself for keeping micro-commitments, outside of food.
  • If you’re having a hard time choosing your micro-commitments, sit down with a piece of paper and write down your ultimate goal. Then break it down into smaller and smaller pieces until you have micro-commitments that are doable and get you excited, bringing you closer to that goal daily.

Community is also important.

Sometimes you will wake up and really NOT feel like doing something. It is days like this that it is important to have people to reach out to for support.

Although your journey is unique, there are a lot of people who are trying to get to the same place you are.

We are stronger when we work together. We can accomplishment more as a team than we can on our own.
