Imagine waking up every day with a zest and vigor for life, being able to see each moment as a chance to live your fullest and most vibrant life.
Many people approach life with a negative perspective, thinking that it is difficult and a waste of time. Some things in life are unavoidable, but the good news is that they do not have to define your life.
Here are 17 values that can actually change your life for the better if you give them a chance. If you take each of these to heart, you will be able to unearth the power you hold deep inside and become the YOU that you want to be.
1. Celebrate Your Victories
I think of the lyrics “celebrate good times, come on.” At Fitlife, we are all about celebrating our victories. When something positive happens, take the time to celebrate. It could be as simple as a massage or dinner with your friends and family. Celebration reminds you that your effort is well deserving of a reward and that you are making progress.
2. Embrace Change
Try not to shy away from change – be the one who looks forward to change. Get excited about the possibilities of a new career, your new home, you new meal plan, etc. as change is an agent of growth. Remember, success comes from being a change initiator, not a change manager.
3. Design Your Own Life
Be the master of your life, as what happens this year depends on what you plan. Set aside time to decide how you want things to look in the end. Decide what areas you would like to see more improvement and create small actionable steps that you can carry out daily, weekly and even monthly to make your life happen and remember to frequently review and adjust accordingly.
4. Live Each Day With Determination
This is key, because setbacks are inevitable. It is important to be determined to move forward, no matter the pitfalls. In the words of my very wise mother, “never give up and charge forward relentlessly.”
My favorite way to handle this value is regularly and vigorously, because there is no other high like the high after a great workout. And bonus, a healthy body makes everything easier. Put together a fitness regimen with physical, attainable goals. The key is to just GET out there and MOVE.
6. Make Friends With Failure
This was a hard one for me, but success is only reached through failure. I admit that this is something that I am still working on, but run towards failure. The key to remember is that the faster you fail, the faster you SUCCEED!
7. Have Faith That You Are Not Alone
In the words of Michael Jackson “you are not alone.” Know that there is more to this life than you can see. Put your intention out there and know that it will be provided for and in the meantime, work to help others have hope.
8. Make Your Family A Priority
I find that when I am there for my family, my life feels more fulfilled. Love your family (blood-related or not) and be there for them. Give them the best of your time, because success is of no real value if you have no one to share it with.
9. Embrace Fear And Make It Your Target
Like with failure, this was a hard one for me and it is still something I am working on, but fear is often a mental construct of your own mind. As Iyanla Vanzant has said many times, F.E.A.R. is False Evidence Appearing Real. Remember that fear is fueled by time, so move towards your goals quickly and fear will be left behind. Don’t give it enough time to overtake you.
10. Forgive Others And Most Importantly Yourself
It has been said by I am not sure who, that holding onto resentment is like drinking poison and expecting someone else to be affected by it. The takeaway here is to forgive those who have wronged you and above all, forgive YOURSELF! Release yourself of that burden and move on.
11. Shower The World With Grace
When I think of showering the world with grace, some people come to mind: Oprah, Ellen Degeneres, Hugh Jackman, Mother Teresa, Princess Diana, Nelson Mandela and the list goes and on. The key is to assume that others mean you well and treat them well. Kindness and grace have solved more problems than rudeness and anger ever will.
12. Commit To Continual Growth
If you ask Tony Robbins, he will tell you that growth is an emotional need and is essential to live a life of fulfillment. Without growth, then stagnation is inevitable. Find ways to feed and expand your mind and soul by reading and listening to positive information. Growth fuels success by opening your mind to greater possibilities.
13. Choose People Filled With Joy
Remove negative influences; that means any and everything, including people and media. Choose to love your life and share your joy with others and you will find that your own will increase.
14. Center Your Life On Peace
I am an advocate for self-care and giving yourself regular times of peace is one of the best ways to self-care. Get enough sleep to renew your mind, body and soul. Pencil in time to step back from building your dreams to maintain a healthy balance. As the saying goes, “all work with no play…”
15. Find And Live In Your Purpose
Take time to find out what gives you the greatest joy, as this is likely your purpose. Use this purpose to make the world a better place. Find ways to add value to the lives of others and maybe even lighten their burdens.
16. Release Your Past For Good
This one’s a doozy; letting go of hurt, pain and anger can be hard, but they are often what hold you back. They slow you down and keep you from being the best YOU you can be. Don’t let what others say or think slow you down. Working on releasing your painful past and know that you can start again and have the success you believe is possible.
17. Lastly, Take Action To Change Your Life
Nothing matters if you don’t take action. Make the decision today that you will do something every single day that will bring you closer to your dreams. Take action… and do it now.
These values are key points that help me attain focus and I am sure they can help you too. You have the power to change your life and become the person you want to be. It all starts with the small steps.
