I can’t stand having dry skin. Whether it is on my face, my hands, or my feet, it just drives me crazy. I usually make sure to know where my several lotion bottles are strategically placed around the house as well as the bottle in my bag when I leave home.
Having dry skin is an annoying condition and can be very uncomfortable. Most times with dry skin, you might have scaling, cracking or even itching of your skin. And sometimes no matter how hard you try, you just cannot seem to make it go away.
Dry skin can be caused by a variety of things, one being that it might just be a natural thing for your skin to be dry. You can also have dry skin caused by winter weather, hot water, certain chemicals that your skin comes into contact with and even medical conditions or medications.
No matter the cause of your dry skin, having some type of lotion to rub on it makes your skin feel so much better.
If you suffer with dry skin, here is a soothing recipe!
Soothing Peppermint Cream
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of coconut oil
- ½ cup aloe vera gel
- 20 drops peppermint essential oil
- 20 drops lavender essential oil
Directions:
1. Add the 1 cup of coconut oil to a bowl or mixer.
2. Add the ½ cup of aloe vera gel.
3. Add 20 drops peppermint essential oil and 20 drops lavender essential oil.
4. Mix all of the ingredients together.
It will take just a few minutes for everything to mix together and become whipped. When you see the whipped consistency (light and fluffy), you will know that it is done.
When the mixture is whipped, scoop it out and place it into a glass jar.
To use this mixture, simply massage the mixture onto clean and dry skin.
Why These Ingredients Are Amazing For Your Skin
Coconut oil is very moisturizing for your skin and can be used on pretty much any skin type. It also has antibacterial properties that help to protect your skin from pathogens and bacteria that could cause breakouts. Coconut oil also has soothing properties that work great for irritations and rashes or itchy skin.
Aloe vera gel can help with acne because of its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Both of these properties help reduce acne and skin inflammation. Aloe vera gel also helps in the growth of new skin cells. Since aloe vera gel is also loaded with antioxidants, it is also very useful in fighting against wrinkles and the fine lines of aging.
Peppermint oil not only smells amazing, but it also works as a natural painkiller and muscle relaxant, which is great if you are suffering from sore muscles. Peppermint oil can help with a backache and even a headache. The smell of peppermint oil also works as a quick pick-me-up if you are feeling sluggish during the day.
The scent of lavender oil helps to improve your mood as well as alleviate the symptoms of stress, depression and anxiety. As with peppermint oil, it can also help to alleviate pain of sore or tense muscles such as backaches, sprains and even joint pains. Lavender oil also has antimicrobial properties, which can help speed the recovery of cuts and scrapes. The antimicrobial property can also help sooth psoriasis and eczema.
