Simple and Healthy Raw Turmeric Mayo – Saturday Strategy

Today we are making a great homemade mayonnaise! It tastes absolutely delicious and can be added to all kinds of meals. Cole slaw, deviled eggs, sandwiches, salads, you name it!

The best thing about making anything homemade is this: you know each and every ingredient going into it! No hidden additives, no GMOs, no sugar or high fructose corn syrup, just pure ingredients that YOU get to pick. For this very reason, many health professionals say that one of the best ways to improve your health is to start making more of your own food instead of buying it from a restaurant or store.

Let’s dive into the reason we are making homemade mayonnaise in the first place!

Store Bought Mayonnaise Or Homemade Mayonnaise?

Once I made my first batch of homemade mayo, I knew there was no other way. First of all, it tastes INCREDIBLE. Second, nutrition wise, the store-bought versions simply couldn’t beat what I was making in my own kitchen with simple, affordable ingredients.

When you buy mayonnaise off a grocery store shelf, you’re most likely NOT getting what you think you’re getting. Did you know most conventional mayo contains copious amounts of SOY, for example? That’s right. The most heavily GMOd crop in America is taking up a huge portion of your mayo jar!

Not only that, but many of the vegetable oils included in store-bought mayo are rancid. That means they provide no nutritional benefit to you and are, in fact, very acidic (disease thrives in an acidic environments).

Two other disappointing facts about conventional mayo are the sugar content and the “natural flavors.” Many brands sneak in sugar to add flavor and if you’re reading this blog then I assume you know extra sugar is not going to do your body any favors. “Natural flavors” is just another way companies can hide undesirable ingredients in your food without being accountable for the specifics.  

Why Turmeric?

Here’s a better question: why NOT turmeric? This incredible “super-spice” can easily be added to a variety of dishes and is unmatched when it comes to benefits. Unlike many popular natural remedies, turmeric has been studied EXTENSIVELY for its potent medicinal qualities and potential for helping with a number of human ailments.

Because of these miraculous – and well documented – root cause solutions, turmeric should be as much a part of your daily routine as water. It’s one of nature’s most powerful – and underutilized – remedies to relieve common ailments, such as the all too common culprit, chronic INFLAMMATION.

In Ayurvedic medicine, turmeric is considered a “cleanser of the body” due to its potent medicinal properties, known as curcumoids. The most important of these is curcumin, the main active compound in this ancient yellow root. It not only has powerful anti-inflammatory effects, but it is also recognized as a strong antioxidant.

Raw Turmeric Mayo
 
Ingredients
  • 1 tbsp of white vinegar
  • 1 lime
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1 inch of turmeric
  • Salt
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • Avocado oil
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • ¼ boiling water
Instructions
  1. Add the yolks, turmeric and garlic to a blender and blend on low.
  2. To temper the egg yolks, drizzle in the boiling water. Keyword: drizzle. Too fast and you'll scramble the eggs.
  3. Add vinegar.
  4. Drizzle in the avocado oil slowly until it begins to thicken.
  5. Next drizzle in the extra virgin olive oil until it's thick enough, that it is no longer mixing in the blender.
  6. Season with salt to taste; about a half teaspoon, or more if you prefer.

We mixed it with chopped cabbage and sea salt, pepper and some other spices for the recipe you see here in the video. But this mayo is great on anything you would typically use mayo for so give it a try! And let us know what you think!
