Say Good-bye to Scale by Taking your Power back
Written by: Kat Gal
How often do you weigh yourself? A few times a month? Once a week? Every day? Perhaps several times a day?
And when you do weigh yourself, how do you feel? How do you feel when your weight is down? How do you feel when you weight is up? And how do you feel when the scale doesn’t budge?
How often do you allow the scale to determine your mood?
Let me remind you that the scale is not the only means of success when on your weight-loss journey. And it certainly doesn’t measure the amount of awesome you hold within you!
Nobody’s weight is completely constant. People’s weight can fluctuate a few pounds up or down within one day, on any day, based on fluid shifts due to activity levels, hydration level, sleep efficiency, stress levels, food intake and hormonal variations. However, when we eat a healthy and balanced diet, our bodies are designed to maintain a fairly homeostatic balance and develop a set point. Yet, when you weigh yourself regularly and see the numbers change based on the factors listed earlier, you may allow this number to determine how you feel about yourself.
But why do you give so much number to this number? Does a pound or five truly matter that much to determine your joy or level of self-love?
Weight is not everything.
Sure thing, if you are highly overweight, you are likely suffering from health problems or at the risk of developing different health conditions. And of course weight is a factor in health, but it is not everything. And yes, if you lose a 100 pounds or even 20, you can be proud of yourself and I believe that it feels good to declare such a victory.
But wouldn’t it be better to feel proud of how much you’ve worked for your health, how much love you’ve put into your well-being, how many pains you’ve healed, how much fitness you’ve gained, how much more energy you have, and how much joy you are radiating?
What is your goal: health and happiness or a number on a scale?
You see, my friend, you really don’t need the scale to feel good about yourself.
Here are some tips on how to get rid of your scale and take your power back…
- Do a 30-day Scale Free Trial: I am a fan of 30-day trials. Try something for 30 days then check in as to how you feel. The scale measures nothing else but the Earth’s gravitation pulling your body. It doesn’t measure your health, happiness, fitness level, energy or self-worth. Ditch the scale for 30 days and see how you feel.
- Do some mirror-work: Stand in front of the mirror. Put all judgments aside. Look into your eyes. Make eye contact. Say something kind to yourself. Give yourself a compliment. Feel compassion. See your soul. Make a connection with yourself. Commit to doing this every day for at least 30 days. And if it feels good for you, incorporate this amazingly beneficial habit into your life on a daily basis from here on out.
- Feel what it’s like to be in your body: For once, instead of weighing and judging your body, start feeling what’s it like to be in it. Touch your body. Feel it. Listen to your body: what is it saying to you. Move. Take a dance class. Walk barefoot on the ground. Smile. Listen what feels good and what doesn’t. Your body is a home to your soul. Settle in and get comfortable. You’ll be here for a while, after all.
- Do something kind for your body: Do something every day that is kind, loving and caring for your body. Eat healthy, nourishing and whole foods. Take a long bath. Dance. Jump up and down. Drink enough water. Lay down comfortably and relax. Stretch. Get a massage or give yourself a mini-massage. Give yourself a hug.
I am not saying never to use the scale (though that is not a terrible idea either), but I am saying to use it as a tool occasionally instead of all the time. You are so much more than a number and when you realize this truth, everything begins to shift with and for you.
