“Cheer up.” “Just don’t think about it.” “Get over it.” “There is no reason to feel so sad.” “Let’s go out, that will make you feel better…” and so on.
These are some of the typical words of advice that you might’ve heard from others when you had a sad face on or were in a bad mood. These may be helpful if you are dealing with temporary sadness or just having an off day, but if you are dealing with depression, they won’t do the magic trick. Depression is no joke – it’s serious business.
Depression is more than just sadness. Depression is a steady low that doesn’t just come and go. Depression can truly interfere with your quality of life and in some more severe cases, it can even stop you from getting out of bed.
Changes in sleep patterns: excessive sleep or not sleeping at all
Changes in appetite and/or weight
Anxiety and irritability

According to the NIMH, in 2012, 6.9% of the U.S. population suffered at least one major depressive episode in their lives. According to the WHO, 350 million people in the world are experiencing depression. These numbers don’t include those who have not been diagnosed or only experiencing some symptoms of depression, but don’t meet the entire criteria. Chances are you either have or are experiencing depression, or know someone – likely many people – with depression.
To be diagnosed with depression you will have to meet very specific criteria stated in the DSM-V. You also have to be diagnosed by a mental health professional, such as a psychologist, psychiatrist, or therapist.
However, even if you don’t meet the exact criteria of depression, you can be showing early signs of it and experiencing some or many of the symptoms.
There is increasing scientific evidence showing that nutrition plays a HUGE role in our mental health.Dr. Julia Rucklidgefound that a diet rich in real, whole, organic foods without processed ingredients and refined sugar, but high in fruits and vegetables seems to have a positive effect on our mental health and can aid in helping depression and other mental health issues.

Healthy nutrition, of course, includes greens and superfoods. This means that drinking green juices and supplementing with green juice powders can be awesome for your mental health.
We have raved about the benefits of green juices and green juice powders, such as Organifi, for a while now, but now we have evidence.
A 3rd party clinical trial has shown that our very own Organifi Green Juice Powder has great benefits for helping and improving depression!
Participants of the trials were asked to drink 2 servings of Organifi every day throughout the 90-day study. Their quality of life, as well as their level of depression was measured using the Beck Depression Scale. By the end of the study, participants reported positive changes in their depression symptoms. They have also reported improvements in their quality of life. Participants have reportedly experienced absolutely NO negative side effects from taking Organifi.
Personally I find it fascinating and cool to know that this yummy drink can actually better my emotional well-being and help those who are dealing with depression.
Besides nutrition, there are other natural ways you can fight and recover from depression, including:
Self-compassion and compassion
Living on purpose
Finding a helpful community
Working with a therapist, counselor, or life coach can also be very beneficial. If you are dealing with more than just short term sadness, but serious depression, it is important to speak with a mental health professional. Working with a therapist while employing holistic methods, such as nutrition, lifestyle changes, exercise and mindfulness (including drinking your green juice) will likely bring you the best results.
Will you give Organifi a try? What holistic methods have you personally found to improve your depression, emotional health and overall well-being? Share in the comments below, we would love to hear from you.

During my FitLife transformation, I lost 70 pounds! That's why I signed up for the protocol, but the most exciting result is that I found ME in the process. I had been hiding under a pile of pounds, self-doubt, and grief! FitLife changed my life and I knew I had to share it with others.

I started with Fitlife back in 2011-2012…I wrote into Fitlife asking for an extreme amount of help. I was 300 pounds, with high cholesterol, and Drew helped me transform my life. I lost over 130 pounds and I no longer have high cholesterol. Not only did I lose weight, so did my husband, who lost over 70 pounds!
