Now that spring is upon us, it means that summer is not too far, which means halter tops, shorts and swimwear.
I find that spring is a great time of the year to renew my intention of healthy eating and recalibrate my taste buds and body for the warmer weather that approaches. As a health coach, I suggest finding a mild and gentle reboot to help you detox from the decadence of winter to prepare yourself for the months ahead.
Here are 8 simple ways to reset and recalibrate:
1. Drink Warm Lemon Water
At Fitlife, we encourage all our transformation clients to drink this wonder concoction first thing in the morning. It helps jump start your digestion and is a great source of vitamin C. As if that wasn’t enough, it also helps balance your pH levels and supports detoxification in your liver.
2. Green Smoothie For Breakfast
As a health coach, I can’t stress this tip enough. It is a great way to start your day by getting your veggies and sets the tone for the rest of the day.
3. Stay Hydrated Throughout The Day
Staying hydrated is a key component in being healthy. Make a commitment to hydrate throughout the day. I find that if I drink ½ of the amount of water I am supposed to drink before noon, I can easily drink all the ounces I set out to drink for the day. To motivate yourself to drink more water, add some cucumbers, lemon, orange slices, mint, cinnamon, or strawberries to your water.
4. Clean Your Kitchen
Spring clean your pantry, kitchen cabinets and fridge and then stock them with leafy greens, organic seasonal fruit and lean proteins. The aim is to restock with the colors of the rainbow. And don’t forget the raw nuts and seeds. With a clean kitchen, you are more likely to eat clean and this can ultimately help increase your wellness.
5. Get Up And Get Moving
I am sure by now that this tip comes up so much, that is it almost expected. There is a reason; it is the quickest way to feel better. There are so many choices on how to get yourself moving and now that it is warmer outside, you can do more, like take a nice walk during lunch, do yoga, go for a bike ride – anything that helps get you moving.
6. Eat Bloat-Busting Foods
I wrote a post about this some time back, looking at all the best foods to fight bloating. The post offers a great starting point; foods like asparagus and drinks like dandelion tea are a great and delicious ways to get your waist line back to where you want it to be.
7. Get Your Sweat On (Or Out?)
This is one of the ways I give myself self-care every month. I go to the local spa and sit in an infrared sauna. This is a great way to detox and improve circulation and lower blood pressure. I always feel awesome after just 15 minutes in the sauna.
8. Forgive Yourself And Focus On The Wins
This is where your health coach can really play a big role. As humans, we experience setbacks and pitfalls and worse, we tend to beat ourselves up for it. It is important to focus on healthy choices and your health coach can help you shift your focus from the failures to your wins, helping you look at where you made great choices. With consistent focus on your healthy choices, you soon find that you are moving forward to a healthy more vibrant you.
Cheers to your health starting to spring! If you have any other tips that work for you, please share in the comments below. Remember, we are in this together!
