Reasons You SHOULD Be Buying Frozen Fruit And Vegetables

Many people live on a strict budget and that usually means having to buy what is economical and helps them save money. And when it comes to fruit and vegetables, those who live on a strict budget usually choose to purchase frozen fruits and vegetables.
While frozen fruit and vegetables may seem to sometimes have a bad rap, it does not necessarily mean that they are completely bad for you. In fact, most of the time, frozen fruit and vegetables can be healthier than the fresh ones!
Here are a few reasons why you should choose to buy frozen fruit and vegetables:
1. They Are Picked At Their Peak
This means that frozen fruits and vegetables are picked at their ripest point when they contain all of their nutrients and vitamins to give you their amazing benefits. The moment that a fruit or vegetable is picked, those nutrients and vitamins stop developing and the fruit or vegetable can actually lose nutrients. Fresh fruits and vegetables are picked BEFORE they are completely ripe, therefore, not allowing the fruit or vegetable to fully reach its potential in nutrients.
When fruit and vegetables are picked to be frozen, not only are they picked at their peak, but the process of freezing them helps to preserve their vitamins and nutrients. First the fruit and vegetables are picked, then washed, blanched (a process of plunging them in boiling water to remove bacteria, then plunged into ice water), packaged and frozen. All of this is done within a few hours time to ensure that the fruit and vegetables maintain their nutrients and vitamins.
2. There Are No Additives
Freezing fruit and vegetables helps to preserve the food in a natural way. And because of this, there are no additives or artificial preservatives that are added to the fruit or vegetables. When you purchase frozen fruit or vegetables, you are also allowing yourself to avoid BPA, which is a man-made chemical that is used inside the lining of freezing bags and cans.
However, there are exceptions depending on the brand and the manufacturer of the bag of frozen fruit or vegetables. In this case, it is important to be diligent in reading the bag thoroughly. You will want to make sure that the bag says that the ingredients were “flash frozen” and that the ingredients list only contains the specified fruit or vegetable.
3. They Are Always In Season
Many fruit and vegetables are grown only when it is the best season for them. For example, one fruit might be grown only in the summer while another may only be grown in the winter. When you purchase seasonal fruit and vegetables and they are fresh in the season, you can freeze them to use for later on. The same can be said with already frozen fruit and vegetables that you can purchase in your freezer section. These frozen fruit and vegetables are always in season and can be used year round!
While many people may have their reservations and their reasons as to why they do not purchase frozen fruit and vegetables, purchasing and eating frozen fruit and vegetables is often times healthier and better for you and your family!
