Pura Vida! Check Out Fitlife’s Management Team Trip to Costa Rica!
August 2015 will remain one of the most memorable times in my life, hands down. I know that my fellow Fitlife leaders would agree with me too!
Together, the six of us embarked on a life-changing trip to Costa Rica and Nicaragua with the intention to experience how people in other countries lived.
One word: BEAUTY.
If you’re new to Fitlife.tv, let me start by welcoming you to a culture of like-minded, heart-centered, passion-driven people on a mission to inspire, empower and educate over a billion people around the world. Maybe that sounds like a hefty goal, but if you’re going to do something… GO BIG OR GO HOME! At least that’s how we look at it…
Deciding to embark on this journey together was easy. Thankfully, we all adore one another and get along great. (Can you imagine working and traveling with a company and co-workers that had you feeling anxious and stressed? No thanks!)
But for us, this wasn’t simply a vacation or an excuse to get away for a week. It was a chance to impact MORE PEOPLE and meet some of the incredible people in our Fitlife community who are sharing what they’ve learned with others, thus creating a ripple effect.
On our first full day, we had the pleasure of meeting our 2015 Male 90-Day Transformation Winner, Gerardus “G” De Loos. He drove 4 hours with two of his very supportive friends to meet us in Guanacaste, Costa Rica at the place we were staying (we didn’t have transportation). We spent the day with them and had the pleasure of getting to know “G” on a deeper level.
He expressed how life-changing the process had been for him and shared with us the steps he’d taken so far to create the life of his dreams. It began with deciding that enough was enough and taking action.
Drew and “G”
I know it sounds too good to be true, but I promise you that CHOOSING to move instead of staying stuck can have profound consequences, either way! And he’s proof of this.
While “G” had a goal of weight loss, what he GAINED was absolutely priceless. To date, he’s lost nearly 150 pounds, which is awesome and inspiring! But even more incredible is the LIFE that he’s gained in the process. And the community he’s created through sharing his personal story… he’s paying it forward.
Not so long ago, “G” wasn’t able to stay awake, travel or even enjoy going to the movies with his friends. He was constantly going to the restroom and couldn’t sleep through the night. The idea of romance was out of the question because he wasn’t able to be present enough to invest time and energy into such a relationship.
Now, he not only has a girlfriend, he is able to sit in a car, go to the movies and experience new places and new things that he’d only ever dreamed of. And he sleeps like a baby! He’s creating memories to cherish for a lifetime. And all because HE made the commitment TO and FOR himself to change his life.
Since beginning on this journey, he’s formed his own community of people just like himself (and quite possibly, just like you reading this now). He is inspiring them, encouraging them and supporting them. He is LEADING by example. With 50+ people active in his online group, “G” has created a platform for change and continues to prove that no matter where you’re at in your life, anything is possible.
Thank you, “G” for inspiring the Fitlife team. We love you and we’re so proud of you!!!
If you’d like to connect with “G” – you can find him on Facebook!

We squeezed as much as we could into 6 days in addition to working while away… but here’s a brief recap of our experience. Enjoy!
We spent a day in Nicaragua, completely unexpected but definitely a highlight for all of us.
We began peddling through the streets of Rivas, exploring the markets and churches in the area. We were experiencing the local culture. We wanted to see how the people of this beautiful country lived. Where did they shop? Where did they worship?
Fresh produce – look at those carrots!
So many bananas and plantains everywhere!
Then we headed to a 30,000 year old inactive volcano, which has long since erupted, spewing lava all over Nicaragua and creating 350 islands!
Sheree and DJ taking in the beauty…
We ate a traditional Nicaraguan lunch, which was mouth-watering!
Roldolfo (in the back with the peace signs) was our guide and he was awesome! He even serenaded us in the car to Gangsters Paradise! AND – he took us by his house to meet his adorable little boy, Ronny. Family in both countries was so important, which all of us loved so much!
Fried bananas, plantain fritters, beef, grilled cheese (there were not a lot of veggies in any of our meals, unless we asked for more… I was surprised by this, actually).
Lunch time entertainment… David, our video master, knew all the words!
He was a great translator for us while in Central America! (Thanks, David!)
We then traveled to an ACTIVE volcano, which was incredible! At first, the intense fumes caused many of us to cough and our eyes to water, but that quickly dissipated. Taking in the beauty left us speechless. What an incredible gift to see one of Mother Natures creations up close and personal in this way…
From there, we traveled by bus to Monkey Island, something we were all so excited to experience! We were told that we would be meeting Lucy, the mama spider monkey, along with her baby and possibly her son (teenagers can be flaky so we weren’t counting on it… ).
Oh… and who knew that monkeys LOVE avocados?! Like A LOT!!!
Meet our new friend and newest Fitlifer, Lucy! Those avocados were totally organic. 🙂
And Lucy’s precious baby…
And guess who decided to make an appearance… Lucy’s son!
The homes on Monkey Island were stunning and for a rate of just $300K (average) you get your own ISLAND and HOUSE! Plus, some even throw in a boat for you too! You don’t see that where we live in San Diego, CA! Who knows, maybe we’ll have a Fitlife island someday…
Next up, horse and buggy to tour Granada…
Drew… such a rebel…
Granada was beautiful! Something we all recognized about this hundreds of years old city was the color. Everything was bright and vibrant. It was inviting. The people were so happy. They welcomed us with open arms and hearts. They were eager to teach us about the place they lived, which they were so proud of. Really a beautiful place to visit. And I am sure, a lovely place to live.
One of the many churches in Nicaragua
I almost forgot… David and Drew grabbed some local attire and sported their shirts all around Nicaragua. Don’t they look great?!
Conquering Fears and Creating Memories
We wanted to see more of Costa Rica too, of course. So we hopped on a bus the next day and took the 1.5 hour trek on bumpy Costa Rican roads (which by the way, animals were EVERYWHERE! Cows, chickens, pigs… in the middle of the streets! No big deal…)
A beautiful look-out point on our way to more adventure
I’ve always wanted to zipline, but I am not a fan of heights. That said, I am also a firm believer in conquering our fears and catering to the expansion and growth of our existence on this planet. When the opportunity arose to say “adios” to this fear, I embraced it with open arms (literally… they call this “superman” – you’re harnessed in but you are free flying – no arms – above the beautiful landscape).
All ready to go!
It was the most exhilarating experience I have ever had! It was freeing. It was magical. It was more than I could have hoped it would be. And guess what? No more fear!
Our fearless leader and visionary… Drew Canole, ladies and gents!
Isn’t it funny how we get caught up in being fearful of things we know nothing about? I mean, we hear horror stories or conjure up a story in our head as to what could go wrong, but what a waste of energy! My advice? If it scares you, you’re on the right track. Do it! And then do it again! Do it until the fear is gone and you’ve gained something positive in the process.
For me, I was able to let go of my need to control the situation and trust. Something I work at daily (eh hem… type A + Scorpio with an Aries moon… seriously… the struggle is real.). The rest of the team supported me 100% and I never felt alone. Come to think of it, knowing they had my back removed the fear before I actually lept of the edge and into the sky. Oh how I appreciate them all!
Friends, family, your support system… let them be THAT for you! And commit to being THAT for THEM too.
Carol, our amazingly talented Graphic Designer and Social Media Director had never ridden a horse. And she freaking LOVED it! Not to mention she was a total natural! I know what she’s getting for her birthday… (Papa Canole, Carol needs a pony!). She may not have been scared, per se. But it was a new experience that she chose to embrace instead of steering clear in an effort to remain comfortable.
Giddy up! Or as Carol kept saying “Andalay! Andalay!”
GROWTH happens when we OPEN ourselves to things outside of ourselves. When we step into the unknown, we ignite the power of transformation on a level other than physical. This is the sweet spot, my friend. Get comfortable being uncomfortable. You are capable of so much more than you realize.
Then came the waterslide down to lunch…
Like a little kid… so great! (that is NOT a streak mark behind him… for the record)
All of this activity and we were hungry! It was so cool to see fresh fruit everywhere we went…
Oranges – “naranjas”
Lunch was pretty standard – animal protein and a small side. Portions were actually pretty small, which the ladies were fine with. The men, however… seconds and thirds… they’re growing guys. I mean, have you seen their muscles?!
Lastly, mud baths and hot springs to unwind…
The bridge on the way out to head back home to get some work done!
As you can see, it was a magical trip. But more than anything, we gained clarity on our vision. All that we’ve created up to this point was put into perspective. We have been so blessed to have the amazing community that we do, but equally as blessed are we to know that there is so much more out there – there are so many more people to help! And THAT is why we do what we do.
You can’t see it by these pictures, but we DID work! I swear…
We came together and brainstormed how together, we could be better leaders. How we could impact MORE people. We reestablished our BIG goals and put action items behind them to allow us to continue moving forward.
BILLIONS OF PEOPLE.
THAT’S HOW MANY PEOPLE WE WANT TO HELP. AND WE WON’T STOP UNTIL WE DO! And let’s be honest, knowing us, when we reach that goal, we’ll just increase that number, 10-fold! Always be growing, friends. Always.
Now Is YOUR Time
Are you stuck in a job you hate?
Are you surrounded by energy suckers?
Are YOU an energy sucker?
Are you in a body that you’re uncomfortable in?
Do you lack support in your life?
Are you unsure where to start when it comes to creating BIG change in your life?
We want to remind you of something, peeps. Something really important. Something that has the potential to literally change the course of your life forever. Something that’s actually fairly simple when you DECIDE and TAKE ACTION.
Everything you want in your life is possible. For everybody. All of you reading this. Seriously though.
I know it might be scary. I know the thought of change can be downright TERRIFYING. But I also know that it’s possible. ALL of us at Fitlife can attest to the fact that change, although nerve-racking at times, is totally WORTH IT!!! We can say this because every single one of us on the team has gone through our own transformation. And truth be told, we all continue to evolve and grow on a daily basis. Because that’s life. And we choose to LIVE! Not simply exist. And we want that for you too.
Perfection is overrated. Progress though… that’s the good stuff! Because in reality, when you finally reach the place you think you want to go, you’ll create something bigger from there. And that’s a beautiful thing.
If you are READY to TRANSFORM your life, WE WANT TO HELP YOU!
Do you need accountability?

I took some time in Costa Rica to really reflect on all that has been made possible over the last year. It’s truly amazing how, by creating a vision for what we want in our life and stopping at nothing to see these things come to fruition, all is possible. Passion and faith go a long way… Meeting our friend, “G” was certainly a highlight for me. And spending time with the team, bonding as a family and creating bigger goals as to how we could help more people create the life of their dreams, just like “G” is doing now… it was absolutely amazing. This trip was something I will never forget and I’m already excited for our next adventure to meet other Fitlifers in person who are also sharing their stories and inspiring others in their communities. I am so blessed to do what I love. And that’s something I want every person to experience. – Drew, Founder & CEO
Our management team trip to Costa Rica has opened my eyes. It’s an indescribable feeling. The gratitude. The passion. The raw emotion. Being able to travel across the world and connect face to face with someone who’s life you have helped transform. Nothing comes close. Just a few years ago I was working in the defense industry in a factory building war machines. Now I help transform peoples lives and my office is anywhere in the world. Thank you all for being part of the movement. Hopefully this is your inspiration, your wake up call, to evaluate what is most valuable to you in this world and take action towards it. – Djamel, COO
Words cannot describe the peace I feel in my heart after taking this trip with my fellow leaders. I am humbled by the experiences we had together and by the enormity of our vision. They say you are the sum of the 5 people you spend the most time with. I am honored to be surrounded by such kind-hearted, passionate, hilarious and inspiring people every day. To think that not so long ago I left corporate america for good, cashing in my savings and 401K, trusting that the Universe had a bigger plan for me. I decided to embark on a path to follow my passion and help people. Having the opportunity to meet those people and see them paying it forward – it’s just so incredible! And today, I am so blessed to do just that with a team of people on the same mission, doing it all from a place of love who truly believe that we are limitless in our potential. Honestly, this is a dream come true. – Sheree, Editorial Director
Just 3 years ago, I was overweight, sick and very unhappy. Then one day, an exciting young man paid a visit to my old company. He taught us about juicing and the power of vegetables. 47 lbs later I was a new person… Mind, Body and Spirit. Today, it’s an honor and a privilege to work alongside Drew and his super crew. When I read comments about other people finding health and happiness, I know I’m in the right place. Nothing is more gratifying than knowing I played even the tiniest role in helping that happen. Costa Rica was unbelievable. The greatest moments on this trip were watching my friends smile and bond like family and OF COURSE, meeting our new friend “G!” – David, Video Director
Four years ago, the possibility of traveling the world and connecting with our community was a dream we had at Fitlife.tv. Seven days ago, that dream became a reality and was more magical than I could have anticipated. Although I already miss Costa Rica’s gorgeous country and warm culture, I know that this is the catalyst to something BIGGER. I am grateful and want you to know that our ability to live out these dreams is a direct result of you (our community) and the inspiration you give us each day. I hope this post is an inspiration and call to action for your transformation – the realization that you can live the life of your dreams and leave the legacy you’ve imagined. – Mae, Coaching Director
At the start of my own personal journey, I would have never imagined my life as it is now. I was sick, tired and sad about where I was in my life and I had no passion or purpose. Going through my own transformation and peeling away the layers of who I truly am at my core has landed me here and I am now able to experience all of the beautiful things life has to offer. Being able to go to Costa Rica and experience meeting “G” and hear all about his personal transformation was amazing. He also had mentioned he saw my video and said he was inspired by my story. That was a completely humbling experience. So with that, I encourage you to truly allow yourself to embrace your truest expression of who you were born to be and second, never stop telling your story… you never know whose life you will touch. – Carol, Graphic Design and Social Media Director
