An Acidic Diet Leads to Inflammation, Osteoporosis and Cancer, Do These 3 Things to Alkalize
An Acidic Diet Leads To Inflammation, Osteoporosis And Cancer, Do These 3 Things To Alkalize
What you eat and drink matters. Certain foods and drinks have the power to create endless health, while others can lead to inflammation and, as a consequence, pain and disease.
But what does inflammation and food have to do with your pH and the acid-alkaline balance?
A lot! Let’s connect the dots between your nutrition, your pH balance, inflammation and health together.
What Is pH?
The term pH is short for ‘potential hydrogen.’ It is a measurement of hydrogen ions in a solution – in this case, the solution is your body’s fluids and tissues.
Don’t worry, you don’t have to remember this, this is not a chemistry test after all. All you need to know is that every cell in your body – from healthy cells to potential cancer or otherwise ‘sick’ cells – is affected by your pH balance.
The job of the pH scale is to measure whether your body is alkaline or acidic on a scale from 0 to 14. Any number below 7 means acidic, above 7 is alkaline and 7 is neutral.
Each organ and part in your body has a different pH. Your bowels and skin are, for example, slightly acidic to keep all the bad bacteria away. On the other hand, your saliva is more alkaline. Overall, each part of your body is working together beautifully to create balance and health.
Out of everything in your body, your blood’s pH level is the most important. It should always be between 7.365 and 7.4 to create optimal cellular health.
Your body knows how important your blood’s pH and your overall pH balance is. It is working very hard to create this balanced environment to allow you to be healthy, energetic and healthy.
That’s right. A perfectly balanced pH doesn’t just happen by itself. But you can help your body to create this balance easier.
When you are making poor lifestyle choices, eating processed and acidic foods, putting toxins in your body, being exposed to chemicals and toxins and creating stress in your body, it all leads to a more acidic environment in your body. On the other hand, if you are feeding your body with healthy and alkaline foods and avoiding chemicals and stress as much as possible, it will be much easier for your body to maintain homeostasis.
Your body wants to keep you alive and healthy. It won’t just give up on you. If it notes even the slightest chance of becoming overly acidic, it will do anything to find alkaline minerals like calcium, magnesium and potassium to create balance. If it can’t find these in nourishing food, it will not hesitate to derive these minerals from your bones, teeth, and organs. The problem is that in the long term this can lead to health complications, including osteoporosis.
You can see that it is a much better idea to feed your body with alkaline foods than forcing it to take these precious minerals from your bones and organs.
The Relationship Between pH And Your Health
Let’s take a look at the Standard American Diet (SAD). It is filled with processed foods, processed sugars, factory farmed animal products, inorganic foods that have been exposed to chemicals, artificial ingredients and so one.
These foods are NOT good for your body. They create an acidic environment, set the stage for bad bugs (bacteria, yeast, fungi and viruses) and lead to inflammation, digestive issues, liver problems, skin issues, stress, allergies, mental health issues and chronic disease.
If you choose a healthier diet, you can tilt the pH scale in the alkaline direction. An alkaline diet is abundant in leafy greens, vegetables, sprouts, avocados and some fruits. It’s very different from an acidic diet that’s high in processed and refined sugar, processed foods and animal products.
You are what you eat. If you eat junk, you will feel like junk too. But if you eat healthy foods, your body can create healthy cells, leading to health and happiness.
Take a look at your diet and take a look at a pH chart. What direction is your pH scale tipping? If you see lots of greens (green juice, green smoothies, salads, sprouts, steamed veg, etc.) you are probably doing it right.
Do I Have To Eat ONLY Alkaline Foods? (Hint: No)
Remember, you don’t have to eat a 100% alkaline diet either. Some healthy foods, like nuts and whole grains, tend to be acidic, whereas other healthy foods, including some fruits and most water are neutral or only slightly alkaline.
It is all about creating a balanced pH, eating a balanced diet with mainly alkaline forming foods and some acid-forming healthy food. You definitely want to cut out processed junk, refined sugars and artificial ingredients, as those are not only acidic and disease-forming, but have zero nutritional value.
Should You Test Your pH And How?
Testing your pH is not necessary. If you are experiencing pain, eating an acidic and unhealthy diet and living a stressful lifestyle, chances are your body is fighting hard trying to maintain any sort of a balance. If you are eating an alkaline and healthy diet, feeling good and living a balanced life, you are going the right direction.
However, if you are curious to test your pH, you can. It can help you to track your progress if you are just starting to change your diet.
You can test your urine’s pH easily at home with litmus paper strips. You can buy them online and at health food stores for about $10. Remember that your urine’s pH varies depending on the time of day and what you eat. It is the best to test your 2nd urine of the day and keep a chart for a while to gather true averages. The optimum pH for your urine should be between 6.8 and 7.5.
3 Bulletproof Ways To Support Your pH Balance
Start Your Day With A Large Glass Of Lemon Water
Lemons?! Aren’t they acidic? You are right, lemons are acidic in their natural form, however, lemon water is actually alkaline-forming inside your body.
To begin your day with a good dose of alkalinity, drink 16 oz of warm water with ¼ (or more!) of fresh-squeezed lemon. This delicious drink can do so much good for you, including cleansing your system, helping your digestion, aiding your immune system and boosting your energy.
Eat And Drink More Greens
Leafy greens, vegetables, wheat grass, sprouts and certain fruits have alkaline forming superpowers. They are also filled with vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, antioxidants and minerals. They can help to alkalize your body, lower and prevent inflammation and fight and keep disease away. Green juice is your best friend for an easy alkaline forming boost. Green smoothies, salads and meals filled with greens and veggies should also be staples in your diet.
If you live a busy life, need an on-the-go boost, or simply want to ensure that you are meeting all your nutrient needs, you should add a glass of Organifi to your day. Both Organifi Green and Red Juice are alkaline-forming, high in vitamins and minerals and filled with health benefits, including giving your energy, boosting your brainpower, helping your digestion, aiding your immune system and creating a glowing skin. Just add a scoop to a glass of water and you are ready to go.
Watch Your Lifestyle
It is not only your diet that affects your pH, but your overall lifestyle. If you are stressed, lacking exercise, filled with anger, taking drugs, smoking, drinking excessively and getting exposed to chemicals, you are creating acidity and inflammation in your body.
Choose a healthier lifestyle instead. Exercise at least 20-30 minutes a day. Walk whenever you can. Spend time in nature. Get enough sleep, 8 hours minimum. Minimize stress in your life. Use relaxation techniques, like yoga, meditation, journaling, coloring, breathing exercises and naps. Spend time with people that lift you up. Smile and laugh more.
If you need help to reduce stress and to change your mindset, seeking help from a counselor, coach or mentor may be a good idea.
Alkaline Vs Acidic Foods
How can you know if a food is alkaline or acidic? By incinerating a sample of a certain food and analyzing the mineral content of its ashes, scientists can figure out the exact effects of a food. Clearly, this is not something you can or even need to do yourself.
Your best bet is to look at alkaline-acidic food charts that you can find in many health and nutrition related books and websites, like this one.
Your body is your temple. Treat it right. Give it nutritious and alkaline forming foods through a diet rich in organic greens, vegetables and fruits. Drink plenty of water, get lots of sleep, exercise regularly, spend time in nature, de-stress your life and smile.
To give an extra boost of alkaline superpowers to your system, add Organifi to your daily diet. Each glass is made with high-quality, organic and plant-based ingredients to give your body the best benefits possible. What are you waiting for? Get yours now.
