Fibromyalgia is a severe condition that dramatically brings down the quality of life for many people. My mother-in-law was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and at times, she can’t do much more than lay in bed when dealing with a large amount of pain. This condition has been a mystery for years and often goes on and on for people without much hope for relief.
YET with a brand new breakthrough in acupuncture, patients of fibromyalgia may be able to finally find some relief.
What Is Fibromyalgia?
After osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia is the most common musculoskeletal condition. It is also one of the more misunderstood and misdiagnosed conditions. Fibromyalgia characteristics include a large range of joint/muscle pain and fatigue, as well as a plethora of other symptoms. It can also lead to social isolation and depression.
Common symptoms of fibromyalgia:
Tender points in the body/huge decrease in pain threshold
When it comes to facing this condition with acupuncture, this awesome video helps to better show you the amazing benefits of acupuncture that you maybe missing out on.
In an attempt to discover if there could be a more personalized approach that could make a difference for those with fibromyalgia, the researchers for the study, utilizing diagnostic criteria that was received from the American College of Rheumatology, compared individually tailored acupuncture treatment with a sham treatment in 153 adults.
The participants of the study were randomly assigned to either simulated treatments or real treatments, each lasting up to 20 minutes long. The participants would continue their regular medication that was prescribed to already alleviate the symptoms of fibromyalgia.
To be able to collect proper data from the approaches for the study, the participants were asked a few questions about their levels of depression, pain and quality of life (both mental and physical) using a pre existing scoring system before the start of the study and then at intervals of 10 weeks, 6 months and then 12 months.
The authors of the study said,
“This treatment produced an improvement in the participant’s’ condition, reflected by a reduction in pain intensity and enhanced functional capacity and quality of life after the intervention and during the follow up period.”
There were significant differences that had persisted after a year, with an average pain score drop of 20% among the participants that were treated with the real thing vs. the 6% for those who were given a simulated treatment.
The authors concluded by stating,
“Such an outcome has not been reported by previous studies following the application of standardised treatments: therefore, our results suggest that applying individualised treatment algorithms when starting a course of acupuncture may be important.”
In short, it seems that even if you are a little scared of needles, a tailored acupuncturetreatment may be of great use to you if you are someone who is suffering from fibromyalgia.

During my FitLife transformation, I lost 70 pounds! That's why I signed up for the protocol, but the most exciting result is that I found ME in the process. I had been hiding under a pile of pounds, self-doubt, and grief! FitLife changed my life and I knew I had to share it with others.

I started with Fitlife back in 2011-2012…I wrote into Fitlife asking for an extreme amount of help. I was 300 pounds, with high cholesterol, and Drew helped me transform my life. I lost over 130 pounds and I no longer have high cholesterol. Not only did I lose weight, so did my husband, who lost over 70 pounds!
