Natural Ways To Prevent And Remedy Headaches

That dreaded headache. You have probably been one of the many people who have gotten a headache a time or two. You may even be one that suffers with debilitating headaches most of the time. Either way, it is a painful situation to be in.
Headaches can be caused by stress (tension headaches), dehydration, lack of sleep, sinuses and allergies, or even something more severe.
About 73% of Americans suffer from headaches, some on a daily basis, some with a more chronic condition. Headaches can even come with muscle and joint pain.
If you are one of the many people who suffer from headaches, whether they are caused by stress, lack of sleep, or allergies, there is hope… in the natural form!
Give one of these natural pain relievers a try the next time a headache hits or is threatening to:
1. Exercise: This could possibly be one of the most simple ways to combat headaches and one of the best ways to prevent getting a headache. Being active helps your body improve your blood circulation, which also increases the oxygen in your blood.
Exercise also helps to improve your hormone balance as well as reduce stress, anxiety and depression. Getting up and moving around stimulates your brain’s mood enhancers and natural painkillers called endorphins.
2. Take Magnesium: This mineral seems to be important for every aspect of your working body. Magnesium comes into play with headaches by relieving the muscle spasms that come along with headaches. Magnesium can also help relieve those horrible migraine headaches by including the mineral in with your daily diet.
If you suffer with headaches or migraines, it is best to make sure that you are getting at least 400 milligrams twice per day of magnesium to help combat headaches. The best way to take this amount of magnesium is 400 milligrams in the morning and the other 400 milligrams right before bed.
3. Take Feverfew: This herb is also great at combating headaches and migraines. It remedies the headache itself rather than just the pain. The combination of ingredients that are found in the feverfew plant help to bring relief from migraines and headaches.
Feverfew works by releasing inflammatory substances called prostaglandins and serotonin. Both of these substances help relieve the onset of migraines. Feverfew also prevents the production of histamine, which can cause inflammation in the blood vessels in your head. Feverfew helps prevent the blood vessel spasms that can bring on headaches.
Feverfew can be found at your local pharmacy or health store. It comes in freeze dried capsules that can be taken 250 milligrams per day, or prepared tablets that should be taken as directed on the package or bottle. It is best that you take feverfew on a daily basis if you get constant headaches or migraines.
