Natural Remedies For Pain Your Body Needs

Ever since I was young, I have been surrounded by natural remedies. I remember how my grandmother had many different weeds, plants and roots around her house and it seemed that for every ailment you could think of, she would have a plant to counter. She would use neem to help relieve eczema and help malaria, willow bark to help with pain, dandelion leaves and roots as diuretics and echinacea to relieve constipation.

As I have embarked on my health transformation journey, I have been looking for natural ways to help keep myself healthy and relieve any ailments that I may experience along the way. I used to run very heavily and ended up injuring my knee a few years back; during the winter my knee tends to have a throbbing, numbing pain that makes it really hard to move around and frankly, just annoys me.

I went searching for some aid and found 4 natural remedies to relieve pain.

1. Turmeric

This spice is widely used in Jamaica and India in curries. The healing power of turmeric comes from its active ingredient called curcumin, an enzyme that helps lower inflammation. Research has shown that turmeric offers anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties and even helps improve circulation and prevents blood clotting.

I find that turmeric really helps the pain in my knees and makes it more manageable. Traditionally, turmeric has been used as medicine to help ease the pain of sprains, strains, bruises and joint inflammation. Turmeric is truly a superstar as it not only helps with pain, but also helps with skin and digestive issues.

I love to sprinkle turmeric in my rice, quinoa and spaghetti. I also take it juiced or in a tincture form.

2. Ginger

This is one of my favorite spices (aside from turmeric, of course). I love ginger because I can use it in my tea, my soups and really all my foods. It is a versatile spice in my opinion.

If that doesn’t convince you, ginger is a natural anti-inflammatory spice that helps with nausea, arthritis, headaches, menstrual cramps and muscle soreness. During colder days, ginger also can help your circulation.

To make fresh ginger tea, boil about 2 inches of ginger root pieces for about 10 minutes, strain the water and enjoy!

Here is a great ginger compress you can try:

  • Grate the root
  • Wrap the ginger in cheesecloth
  • Place in hot water for 30 seconds
  • Let cool and place on affected area for 20 minutes

3. Valerian Root

Valerian has been used for many centuries to help regulate the nervous system and relieve insomnia, tension, irritability, stress and anxiety. This root is a natural pain reliever and reduces sensitivity of the nerves.

The next time you are in pain or having a hard time sleeping, try a cup of valerian tea. It can also be found in pill form.

4. Eucommia

I came across this beauty when I was looking for natural ways to help the tissue around my knee. This bark has been used in Chinese medicine for back and joint pain, especially in the hips and knees and helps mend ligaments and tissues that may have been weakened though stress. Studies have shown that this bark encourages development of collagen.

You can make tea with this bark, or take it in tablet form.

***Note: Before taking eucommia, please consult your doctor.

Give one or all of these a try the next time you are needing some pain relief and let us know how it goes! Do you know any other natural ways to relieve pain? Please share with us in the comments below, we love hearing from you!

Do NOT use the turmeric spice in your cupboard as a health supplement. Many spices are adulterated with carcinogens, GMO corn, dyes, and even sawdust!

Choose a super critically extracted, Organic, Non-GMO turmeric supplement like this one.
